To be fair, this is (should be) directed at poor/beginner golfers.
I have a couple of friends who play twice a year. This is fabulous advice for them. Otherwise they are swaying all over the place, topping the ball, whiffing... etc.
My current version of the advice is to watch the clubhead hit the ball. That's been successful, sorta.
Keeping the head still, will therefore keep the spine steady (IMO the latter being maybe THE most important swing thought).
But a golfer could still keep their head "down" (or so they think ... looking down), but still moving their spine all over the place.
... though as I get older it becomes so much more futile for me to try to smash anything. The smash is gone.
Even a few beers? Only asking because we're supposed to have that game against the dark side this summer. I play better after smashing some beer.
