  • Pinnacle Exception vs Titleist NXT

There was a thread on TGN a couple of weeks ago where people were wondering if the Titleist NXT and Pinnacle Exception were the same ball but rebranded. Well, Pinnacle (who's also owned by Acushnet) just released an upgraded line of Exceptions, and their enhancement are similar to the new NXT's:

***the all-new Pinnacle Platinum line improves on the previous Exception model in that they are both softer and longer.***

I also heard that the same factory cranks out both the NXT and the Exceptions on some US forum. I was also curious if the two were the same ball.

      Likely true that same factory.

But same factory doesn't mean the same ball, same specs, same components, same chemical formulation, etc.

I am still waiting for proof that they are the same ball

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that. I've always thought the balls played the same.

I just checked the Conforming Golf Ball List on USGA and the NXT Extreme's construction and number of dimples are identicle top that of the Exception. I couldn't find a similar Exception for the NXT Tour, although I don't think the list has been updated since the beginning of the month. Note that noting is mentioned about what the materials are.

The description of the NXT Extreme is 2P-SC-1C 392 LM

That means 2 piece, solid core, single cover, 392 dimples, low spin off driver, mid spin off short iron. The NXT Tour is 3P-1C 392 LM.

Re: Pinnacle Exception vs Titleist NXT

I was in a local golf store last week and the sales guy in there ( obviously trying to sell me stuff ) was chatting away.

One of the things he told me was that these two balls are made in the same factory..( and according to him to the same spec).

His source of this information was allegedly the rep from pinnacle..........who apparently also said that many of pinnacle/titleist balls are made alongside each other to the same spec to share production/set up costs.

          Dunno how true it is
          currently in my bag are:

From a production standpoint this makes sense. They can maximize their shelfspace without increasing costs. On the weekend, the Pinnacle Exceptions were $12.99 at Target. Next time I'm down there I'm stocking up.

Go to the library and find a copy of the May 2006 issue of Consumer Reports.
The golf ball "ratings" presented were probably the basis of the speculation.

Re: Pinnacle Exception vs Titleist NXT

It's funny I switched from the Pinnacle Exception to the Titleist NXT Tour this year. I always loved the Exceptions and still recommend them. By spending a bit more on the NXT's I thought I was getting a slightly better ball to go along with my slightly better game but maybe I'll switch back if they are the same ball. The Exceptions are quite a bit less and often, you'll find 4 packs cheaper than 3 pack NXT's.

Your right to say that, I had a customer that lives next door to a Titleist rep and he said that the Exception was as close to a Pro-V1 as you would get, for whatever it's worth.
I used them for a while and found them a truely great ball off the tee and around the green!.

I've used the Pinaccle Exception for about 3 years now.
I don't play the more expensive Titleist so can't say how they compare.

Hey, you should sell more clubs, that way you could afford those fancy high priced balls......
