My 9 is 160 if I'm going to hit 170 i'll switch to an 8, I don't go all out on my swing if you see it. I have a short backswing and no wrist-cock on the top. And I don't carry a 3iron, I used to but why make it hard for myself hence the hybrid and woods I added on my bag.

You should go out next summer with a couple of TGNers I play with and you'll be suprised that there are a lot of nuts here who can hit it way further than me. It's just a yardage, golf is not about how long you hit it.

So, i've been told 'it's not about yardage'. I play 65+ rounds a year and less than 50% of the time i play conservatively by the book, especially if money is involved. However, i've noticed that when you get more than one long hitters in a group, things tend to explode: balls, ego, score..... but it's all fun, lots of fun. Most people dont remember the par 5s they laid up but for sure they'll remember the eagle putts on par 5 and driveable par 4!!!!

160 to 175 - the low end is the smooth gentle power swing, and the high end is a mighty power swing

I agree with TourIQ, the question is meaningless without specifying loft.

I carry my 52 degree Gap Wedge exactly 100 yards, with a smooth swing.

My carry with a 36 degree 7 iron is 140 yards.

It does not bother me what the number on the club says, I want a consistent distance.

typically its 165. but you can crank up a few yards by drawing the ball and playing a draw. max around 180.
and dont worry about "acceptable distance" whatever you feel most comftorble with is acceptable. play to your own streagth and abilities, dont worry about the others

My Ping ISI BeCu 7 iron is my go-to club. Its consistently 150 yards. I have even considered single length irons at the 7 iron length
