Depends on the shot...anything from 165 to 185...185 being a high draw, 165 a soft fade. 245yds at 10 000ft in Breckenridge Colorado!
Stock straight shot would be 170-175yds.
How far with a 7 iron is not the important question...how accurate is.

as a bump and run on firm terrain, it's usually my 100 yard club
as a stinger it's 140-145 yards
as a cut shot it's 135 yards
as a draw shot it's 155-160 yards
as a steep easy swing it'll get me 145-150 yards
as my usual full "flat" swing it's 155-160 yards.
distance is irreverent on a 7 iron...consistency in yardage is more critical....or even going so far as trajectory and shape of the shot.
That's interesting. Pardon my newbie ignorance but a draw shot goes further than a fade with the same swing speed? By that much especially?
Definitely didn't think of all the available options listed here. Got some experimenting to do.
Draw is flatter trajectory and has often more spin, fade is higher and softer. It depends on how much you you want to work the ball, but focal is probably indicating at the outer range of his "workability". There are a LOT of factors.
