Can one go to hit balls on a municipal course after it has closed for the season? I'm assuming since it's public property, people can use it to go for walks. What about just hitting some balls? Anybody do/done this?

I expect you would be asked to stop and leave quite quickly but no I have not done this, would not ever think to try to be honest.

agreed. you can't hit balls in a park which is essentially what muni courses turn into when they're closed. plus the possibility of damaging winter turf...

I've seen it done, but it's not allowed.

Just because it's public property doesn't make it legal. Golf is prohibited year round at all public parks, the subway, Nathan Philips Square, etc., etc....

courses are closed for a reason. there are things happening behind the scenes that you are probably not aware of.

          don't be that guy.

Most cities have by-laws prohibiting such actions. It is public property governed by a fee structure that when closed, you are not paying.

Just because its "public property" does not mean it is unlimited public access. After all military bases are public property, but I don't think you can just wander in especially on the rifle ranges

Don't do it. Muni courses will not like that. The Briars (private) lets you play after they have shut down.

suspect that it is not allowed.

over the years I have regularly seen folks on Highland Gate in the late fall and in winter on those plus temperature days

True and I've seen them hit into families out walking the dog. Dangerous situation.

I have seen public walking into DV few times. Most of the time they came in behind where the pond at #3 is now. Told the marshall every time and he asked them to leave for their own safety.

Friend of a friends house backs on to Uplands. He enjoyed a few free holes this year, until a marshal caught and banned him from the course. LOL

Those are some of biggest houses in the city and the guy has to try to sneak in free holes?
