Default Flighted versus Non-flighted shafts

What are the advantages for each? Does a golfer need to be at a certain handicap for one over the other? Thanks in advance.

Flighted shafts will promote a higher ball flight and non flighted will be lower, no you don't need to be a certain handicap to play them, just need to be fitted into either flighted or non.

actually this is the common general misconception but not exactly so

Flighted Rifles are made from Rifle blanks and tipped differently to promote differing ball flights.

They have softer tips in the long irons to help promote a higher ball flight

they have stiffer tips in the short irons to help keep the ball down

they are just standard rifles in the middle irons.

so when they make a rifle shaft with say a 5.5 frequency listed they will use both Rifle 6 and Rifle 5 shafts and tip them differently to manipulate the trajectory but keep the butt frequency consistent but yet they will play differently.

Hi Peter

Do you think they change ball trajectory any appreciatable amount or more hype?

I personally have just replaced my stock uniflex shafts from my x20's to the flighted 5.5 and i do notice more of a higher ball flight. I have gotten about 10-15 yards increase. My longest iron is a 4 iron before the change i averaged about 185-195 yards now i am averaging 195-210. i am really happy with the upgrade that i got done, it took me a while to be convinced but after the fitting that i did i was sold. Just my personal experience as anyone else could experience differently.
