Default Lightning strikes

woah, this happened in South Africa, but they were running hand-in-hand for shelter while on the golf course and bam, lightning hit the father and travel through their hands and to the boy...

Very unfortunate story...I went out golfing one time and there was a thunderstorm but my friends ignored the horn to call everyone in...stories like this should make them rethink doing that again.

I hate lightening, a friend of mine ignores it, but I try to always go in the clubhouse, why take a chance?!?!?!

isn't there increased chance of strikage on a golf course, you are holding a bag full of metal and in an open field...

Yes, you are at an increased risk playing golf. The open fairways leave YOU as the tallest object to conduct lighting...holding up a steel rod up in the air doesn't improve your chances either...also, standing under a tree is not good shelter, a tree being hit by lightning can kill the person under it too...best to stay near trees so that you're not the tallest object and don't hold your clubs...get to the club house or a shelter immediately...a marshall will come get you.

so sad.....
and the end of the article listed other people who was killed by lightning within the last 2 weeks...
wow..never realized that lightning is THIS dangerous..
i guess it is true that there's a higher chance of one getting hit by lightning than winning lottery jackpot
