  • PX 5.0 HL .370 Install

    Hey guys, I'm looking at building a new set of Titleist 690mb's. I currently have another set butt with PX 5.5 .355 shafts that are soft stepped for the 4-7i and straight in for the the 8-pw.

    For this new set, Im going to install PX 5.0 High Launch .370 parallel tips. So first thing I'll need to do is have the hotels reamed out. My question is can I just butt trim these without creating descending weight(pw is lighter than 4i) clubs. Or do I need to tip trim them first. I've looked everywhere and can't find the specs for these. Two shops have said I need to tip trim, others have said no and the on-line retailer said they are ready for straight in install with only butt trimming required.

    Any help or input is greatly appreciated.

    Pretty sure these shafts come as pre tipped in discrete lengths for each club. For example the pw shaft should be something like 36.75 inches raw and the 4i shaft something like 39.75. If this is the case simply butt cut to length.

    if the shafts are all the same length ( ie uncut blanks) usually 41 inches , then they would need to be tip trimmed specifically for each head.

      Thanks Weirfan, they are indeed precut to discrete lengths. I assumed I would just need to butt trim, but will their weight be descending or ascending is what I'm really wondering?

        I believe that these are constant weight shafts , a pic of a chart I saw showed only a 4 gram weight spread for them.

          Do they come in a set of 8? I recently asked GW about Rifle steel. They said that they were not constant weight shafts. No tip trim

            Thanks for checking! Can't wait to build this new set and compare them head on with my other set.

              No tip trimming. The frequency matching has been done at the factory.

                That's actually the seller I bought them from, but I was still wondering about how they would be weighted.

                  Just weigh the 3 iron shaft and the PW shaft. I doubt that they weigh the same.If they do then they are constant weight. If not If the hosel bore depth is constant on all your clubs chances are you'll be butt trimming the same amount across the set.

                  The lengths of the uncut shafts are:
                  3 Iron= 40.25", 4 Iron = 39.75", 5 Iron = 39.25", 6 Iron = 38.75", 7 Iron = 38.25", 8 Iron = 37.75", 9 Iron = 37.25" and PW = 36.75"

                  Descending weight is a not a bad thing

                      this chart suggests they are constant weight.

                        Hard to know for sure . The chart I posted in post number #5 makes it seem like they also are constant weight but they are not.

                        The OP should weigh the shafts at raw length to know for sure. In case of Nippons for example it is clearly stated in the description:

                        GolfWorks Canada is a fully stocked retail store specializing in golf club components, custom fittings and golf club repairs. We offer the largest selection of golf grips, shafts, heads and accessories in the industry.

                        Features a constant weight system for uniform feel with each iron in the set.

                            Pickup some tip weights if you want to keep your SW consistent throughout the set. Butt trim to length only.

                              Hey guys, after some serious shipping delays, a lost set of shafts, and replacements finally arriving, and the originally lost set then found shafts arriving shortly thereafter. I find myself concerned about both sets I received. I don't think think there are any authenticity concerns, but I'm worried I got the wrong shafts.

                              The first set is 4-pw set with numbers as follows

                              4= 48425782-1 6851PT-396 5.0 39.75
                              5= 48425782-1 6851PT-392 5.0 39.25
                              6= 48425782-1 6851PT-386 5.0 38.75
                              7= 48425782-1 6851PT-382 5.0 38.25
                              8= 48425782-1 6851PT-376 5.0 37.75
                              9= 48425782-1 6851PT-382 5.0 37.25
                              P= 48425782-1 6851PT-376 5.0 36.75

                              The second set is 3-pw with numbers as follows

                              3= 48425782-1 6851PT-402 5.0 40.25
                              4= 48425782-1 6851PT-396 5.0 39.75
                              5= 48425782-1 6851PT-392 5.0 39.25
                              6= 48425782-1 6851PT-386 5.0 38.75
                              7= 48425782-1 6851PT-382 5.0 38.25
                              8= 48425782-1 6851PT-376 5.0 37.75
                              9= 48425782-1 6851PT-382 5.0 37.25
                              P= 48425782-1 6851PT-376 5.0 36.75

                              Paying attention to the last four shafts in each set, is something wrong here? Shouldn't the three numbers after PT continue to descend?
