  • DIY Putter Cosmetic Fun

I recently picked up a few Scotty Cameron putters, one being an s5.

It was in pretty good shape but I thought I'd play around with it a bit and make some costmetic changes.

I tried buffing out a few of the scratches with a dremel and an air powered, handheld polisher and although it got rid of some of the scratches, I was left with a very glossy putter.

So I took a torch to it. I probably did it for about 5-6 minutes two separate times and it gave the putter an ever-so-slightly dull copper colour. It's subtle enough that it's difficult to notice in pics but in person it's definitely easily seen.

Then I did some repainting. The metal plate is, I assume, annodized aluminium and I didn't want to get in to removing the paint from it so there are still a few scratches visible on the plate.

The letters and SC dots were cleaned with acetone. The plate was immersed a few times in acetone as some of the paint was hard to remove. I had to scrape the letters clean with a dental tool.

I used some Testors model paint to fill the letters, weights and SC dots.

It was surpringly easy to do.

I logged out and could see the images.

However, I couldn't see the post I made just above this one. I guess there are still a few bugs in the system.

I refinished two old Wilson 8802 putters and a few old Ping putters and finished them off with different paint fill. That gave me the idea to change the paint fill on my Ping Stealth wedges so I could read the degrees on them, the Click image for larger version

Nice. It's not really hard to do and adds a bit of a personalized touch.
