  • Measuring Club Length

I'm just wondering how everyone measures their club length.

I use a Maltby club length ruler https://www.golfworks.ca/maltby-benc...uler/p/ma2010/

it has an adjustable lie angle sole plate that can match the lie angle of the club, which to me would be the true effective playing length of the club. Pretty sure that is not the standard for measuring clubs though.

I've seen 60 degrees as a standard, as well as 63 degrees.

so let's hear everyone's thoughts on the subject.

    60 degrees
    14.29%
    1
    63 degrees
    14.29%
    1
    same as club lie angle
    71.43%

I use the lie angle of the club being measured

Putters are measured differently as are LD clubs

      LD= long drive?

I haven’t done any putters. How do you measure them?

the issue with the NEW(adjustable) Maltby club-length ruler is that it is not a precision tool and you have to know the exact lie angle of that club ahead of time, meaning that if the sets lie angle is off, you have a length problem if you change the lie angle afterwards.

changed wording to make it clearer, I hope.

bl8d I do have a Mitchell steelclub loft/lie machine to measure, so
it is possible for me to set the lie angle plate to the correct position.

I guess another version of my question would be. What does a manufacturer use for cutting a club to length? If they use a standard 60* or 63*, and I measured using the actual lie angle, our dimensions would be different.

I have that ruler as well. Though is a lot of money for a ruler, it is solidly made and everything I could hope for to easily and reliably measure. I use this square with it as it slides nicely along the length of the ruler:
The Empire 7 in. Rafter Square is lightweight, durable, and can stand up to everyday use. Its bold, blue colour makes it easy to locate, and the square features moulded-in conversion tables.

ARL67 I was lucky enough to get it on sale recently. Very happy with the ease of use. Good call on the square. I was using one myself today with it. I might try and make a block that extends to the scale and straddles over the shaft similar to this but customized for the maltby ruler https://www.mitchellgolf.com/shop/re...marking-guide/

I have the same ruler and measure using the lie of the club. All heads are bent to spec prior using a combination of my golfsmith loft /lie gauge and Scotland loft/lie bender.

Below is what I use to mark my cut line:

Swingman that’s a neat little hack for a square. Going to give it a whirl

                        Thanks!

I considered the Mitchell guide, but couldn’t justify the price. Especially when these cable straps do the job and can be had for peanuts.

agreed, pretty pricy. I have access to a machine shop so it’s more for fun for me lol.
