  • Grips - ribbed vs non-ribbed?

I was thinking up funny innuendos to place in the title about ribbed vs non-ribbed, but I'll save that for another day.

Like others, I'm planning on taking advantage of the GT 2 for 1 or I'll go to swank to match the price.

Anyway, I've been using the Golf Pride New Decade Multi-compound cord grip and love it; however, a few comments that I've heard lead me to believe that I might benefit from the ribbed grip.

Anyone have a preference between the two? Do you guys think it helps with consistency? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I've tried both, I did not notice a big difference. Some others are probably more sensitive than I am and could probably benefit from them, as it might help with consistent hand placement.

If you want them on the NDMC, I've seen Jeff add something small that creates a rib effect...so you can have the best of both worlds.

Ribbed for me. I've used them for the past 5 years and can't see myself going back.

Since ribbed NDMC grips are hard to find, I added a pipecleaner to the underside of each grip and it worked just fine. Not sure if that's legal or not, but it felt exactly liked a ribbed grip.

I have golfpride victorys ribbed on my MP30s and I dont think it feels any different. I think it helps with the setup a little but i would still prefer the Golfpride wrap cord or velvet cord. It feels a tad bulkier but more secure.

Ribbed are fine as long as you get each one installed EXACTLY the same way. Otherwise your hands could be in 13 different positions.

Therein lies the problem with ribbed ...

                  That's why I prefer round.

To an extent, I'll agree with this. Unless the grip is installed sidleways or at a 45 degree angle, I can't see it being a huge deal if it's off a couple of degrees. For me, it's simply a reminder and I'm always making sure that my clubface is square to the target. I'm not holding the club tightly enough for the reminder rib to impact the direction of my shot.

Having said that, a buddy of mine who like his grips logo down installed a set of ribbed grips on his clubs. He hit everything sideways until we figured out why.

Re: Grips - ribbed vs non-ribbed?

Besides possibly being installed off-line, the other downside to ribbed is that you can only take your standard grip on it -- which leaves out the times you want an open clubface such as sand shots, intentional slices etc.

I learned late in my golfing life that you don't just open the clubface when they say open the clubface ... you open the clubface and then regrip.

Anyway, you could do it with ribbed but it'd feel odd.

it is just a personal preference

non ribbed are more popular than ribbed by 20 -1

Ditto! Not to mention, sometimes for some shot making, I want to shut or open the clubface and the rib gives an awkward feel.
