  • High Handicapper looking for course suggestions for this weekend

As the title suggests, I am not the greatest golfer yet, however I am always up for a challenge. I like trying new courses and when I found out royal ashburn is hosting a tournament this Saturday, I had to alter my plans. I am trying to decide between glen cedars and watson's glen. Any suggestions?
So far this year, I've played:

    Cresthaven
    Bathurst Glen
    Remington Parkview - Valley
    Markham Green
    Tam O'Shanter

Glen Cedars is a tough course in my opinion. Some of the dog legged holes require a pretty straight tee shot, the greens are small, oddly shapped and theres alot of danger around them with bunkers and alot of drop offs before and after the greens so that could be an issue if your chipping isnt great. The positives is that its not overly long and if you do hit an errant tee shot, you can hit from the other holes that run along side yours. If your up for a challenge, i definitely think this is a good option.

Give Pheasant run, silverlakes, mill run or st. andrews valley a shot. All nice courses, each with a different challenges and all are usually in pretty good condition.

I prefer Watsons Glen over Glen Cedars.

        Play Watsons Glen. Wide fairways.
avoid Pheasant Run as OP suggested.
That is a shot makers course with fairways that slope right to left and vice versa penalizing your drives unless you can shape the ball. Much narrower fairways !!

Lots of decent courses to choose from in that area.

            Like Glen Cedars.
            Oak Ridges is nice visually.
Also like Pheasant Run but only when I am playing well. Otherwise fairly narrow.
Mill Run has a nice diversity of holes and excellent practice facilities. It is the course that I would recommend.

New golfer....Watson's over Glen Cedars for sure

How about Whispering Ridge (behind Lakeridge)
Every great idea starts out as a blasphemy

You can try bushwood. wide fairways and not much slopes.

bloomington is another easy course to practice. very wide fairways and no slopes.

rolling hills, maples of ballantrae.. if you find good deals..

glen cedars, pheasant, shawneeki, watson's.. they are all good courses for challenge.

bushwood, deer creek south, mill run. at least a few holes being forgiving if you dont hit it straight.
Pheasant Run can be a nightmare esp once the leaves start falling.

If you were going to play at Royal Asburn...
Lakeridge (2 courses) are close by and are good places for High Cappers

Played watson's glen today. Great track, well maintained. Had a lot of fun however I didn't score well but that's just the way it goes sometimes. That fescue is a pain to hit out of!

Looking forward to trying some of the other tracks you all have suggested.
