  • 2018 Trial Memberships

Hey Nuts! I was looking to join a new course this year and called up almost every club in the GTA. I'm 24 years old, and was looking for overall best value. Some of the course I looked into were Hamilton, Mississauga, Credit Valley, Brampton, and Markland Woods. I am moving on from Trafalgar GC, after the fire we had at the club I felt like it was my time to finally move on after debating for the last few years. Since I gathered this info, I thought if someone else was in my position if there was a way I could help them out. So here is the info I have.

Golf Club Trial Membership Available Full Trial Restricted Trial 5 Day Membership Trial Intermediate Trial (20-24) Intermediate Trial (25-29) Intermediate Trial (30-34) Intermediate Trial (35-40) Spousal/Social Trial Food Minimum Initation Fee

Every course I dealt with was really good to me and super professional. I ended up choosing Credit Valley, everything that they have to offer from the club house being open year round with a gym, the food being so good, golf course, practice facility, and overall feel of the membership was great. The price was really good too. Overall I think it was the right fit for me, I joined at the start of 2018 and have loved being here. Just need the weather to warm up and the course to open!!!

Very well researched GolfMutt. I too went through something similar leading into last season before joining a Club. I was 28 and looking at Intermediate rates and ended up at Brampton GC. It does look like your numbers for their Young Professional Program are much, much higher than they are at BGC. It sounds like Credit Valley is a good choice for you but I don't want people taking this and having the wrong idea about Brampton. I cannot speak to any other Club's offering other than what I went through with Brampton, which is (all are annual approximates before tax):

    Unlimited and Restriction Free
    19-25: $2500
    26-32: $3700
    33-39: $4500

    Another option was:
    19-25: $1500 for the year plus $35 a round
    26-32: $1700 plus $50 a round
    33-39: $1800 plus $75 a round

All of those are much closer numbers for Brampton GC for those interested.

I too can't wait for the season and everyone to be able to enjoy their Club!

Thank you!! I don't want anyone to get any bad impressions of BGC, I liked the course when I played a few interclubs there in past years. When i inquired about joining this year, thats the info Scott gave me. Super nice guy! Heard that you were redoing the clubhouse for this upcoming year.

Yea Scott is great. There have been changes to it I am sure as it's refined to give value to those of us younger ones that want to be part of a Club. The clubhouse is being worked on now. Can't wait for it to be done at the start of the season as it's been closed all winter this for the reno.

It doesn't get the attention it deserves it seems on these boards as the name isn't as known. The course is in great shape (particularly the greens - they run so smooth), it is an easy walk, full practice facilities and an active membership (league [Wednesday's] and events run well). It is not the longest course (~6600 from tips) but is still challenging. For the value I do think it is tough to beat.

Not sure where you are from, Cedar Brae intermediate 1, you will pay just under $1700 + hst and thats it. I don't think you can beat that anywhere when you are 24!!!

Cedar Brae unfortunately for me is about 75 min away, If I lived closer the courses I would of looked at are The Summit and Cedar Brae. Love Love Love both courses and both clubhouses. Cedar Brae is spectacular!

I have no major complaints, but that's not to say it's perfect. There is always an extra option/special or two on Wednesday's which is nice. A new Executive Chef joined last year and tried some new things. Took some time to adapt and find the right offerings and prices. Brampton as a city does not have that many decent dinner spots to begin with and the Club I find has a variety of options and got much more consistent as the season went on. From what I have been told improving the food going into last year was something membership was strongly pushing for.

One thing we have been told is going to improve is the service (an issue during last year). Was too much turnover and the proper training was missing. Also, if it matters to you, there is a great pint selection.

That's an awesome deal for that age range. Young people in that area need to be made aware of that offer!

I always find it interesting how clubs make you pay your initiation fee. What is the payment structure like for that?
