Outside of Angus Glen, Deerhurst and Lionhead....I would say all are still top end courses.

Obviously some excellent new ones have come into play ....just in Ontario ....Goodwood, Coppinwood, Muskoka Bay, Wyndance to name a few.

True but the order of rankings for many have certainly changed.

By coincidence you have mentioned the 3 courses for which I have the greatest emotional attachment.

Lionhead Legends is the first golf course that I played with my father. I had a corporate membership there for many years and played it many times. Most of my best 'golf stories' are from the Legends. You might even say that is where I learned golf, which may explain why my game is so messed up.

We played Angus the first week it opened. And had a standing reservation there once a week for many years. Don't have as many stories about Angus but that might be because the course is more forgiving? Thinking back I wish that I had realized how lucky I was at that time. A good job, good income, good health and both of my parents healthy. Sometimes you just don't realize .........

Deerhurst was my first golf 'trip'. Twice a year my father, my brothers and I would go and play there as a foursome. That is the last course we played as a foursome and the last course my brothers played with my father. He had a Clublink 'platinum(?) membership so we played all the Clublink Muskoka courses but preferred Deerhurst. Just picturing the 1st tee in the fall with the fairway going downhill towards the sparkling waters of the lake, then the Algonquin Highlands behind the lake with the trees in all their blazing, glorious colours brings a smile. When my eldest daughter got engaged, one of the first things I did was to take my future son-in-law to Deerhurst to get to know him,

I played Deerhust, Angus South and Lionhead ( mostly Legends) a lot when they first opened but i's been at least 10 years I bet since I have played any of them. Last was a memorial, charity fundraiser at LH Masters. I think Deerhurst would still be a nice round to play in the Fall but have heard conditions have really suffered and there are so many new and better Muskoka courses now.

Interesting for sure. There are some courses where they differ significantly today than these rankings. One thing I have always wondered is why Thornhill GC is never in the top 100. It was my home course as a junior (so I could be slightly biased) but I do feel it is always underrated. I find it's better than many of the courses on here. I am not saying it's a top 50 course, but I do feel it should be ranked inside the top 100. I see it as VERY comparable to Weston, yet Weston is always highly ranked and Thornhill is off the list completely.

I don't have time to investigate, but wonder which clubs have descended the most, and what clubs that have risen in the rankings, and possible reasons. Conditioning should not be a factor, but perhaps renovations.

I note that The Summit GC is more highly regarded now, and then others like Lionhead Legends have vanished. Glen Abbey has lost its lustre too.

I remember those cheaper days, when it was a secret place to play.

I noticed on the 2004 list there was no Osprey Hoot or Toot.

Ontario courses on the 2020 list and not on the 2004 list and that were open for play include (please excuse any errors and/or omissions). The year of opening is in brackets for courses that were 'new' then. Note that both the Toot and North were rated ahead of the Heathlands in 2020.

By my count 14 Ontario courses that existed then and have since been added to the Top 100. Note the quality of courses being built/opened in that period. Credit to Tiger?

                        39 Osprey - Hoot (opened 2001)
                        42 Ottawa Hunt
                        45 Mad River
                        48 Georgian Bay (2004)
                        51 Eagles Nest (2004)

OK, way too much time on my hands. Looks like 32 of the of 44 courses on Arthur's list from '04 were still on the list in '21. Here they are in order of the number of spots they moved up or down with their current ranking. Biggest gainer by quite a bit is Cherry Hill; biggest losers, excluding those that fell off the list all together, are Glen Abbey and Brantford.

                          43 -- Cherry Hill Club 47
                          27 -- London Hunt & Golf Club 36
                          38 -- St. Thomas Golf & Country Club 20
                          37 -- Summit Golf Club 19
                          34 -- Weston Golf & Country Club 16
                          13 -- Westmount Golf & Country Club 9
                          78 -- Lookout Point Country Club 9
                          25 -- Devil's Pulpit 4
                          49 -- Essex Golf & Country Club 4
                          12 -- Toronto Golf Club 3
                          10 -- Devil's Paintbrush 1
                          73 -- Scarboro Golf & Country Club 1
2 -- The National Golf Club of Canada -
                          4 -- St. George's Golf & Country Club -1
                          47 -- Mississaugua Golf & Country Club -1
                          11 -- Beacon Hall Country Club -2
                          8 -- Capilano Golf & Country Club -4
                          9 -- Cape Breton Highlands Links -4
                          7 -- Hamilton Golf & Country Club (West/South) -6
                          70 -- Rosedale Golf Club -9
                          33 -- Redtail -19
                          92 -- Cataraqui Golf & Country Club [-6] -23
                          31 -- Bigwin Island Golf Club -25
                          35 -- Rocky Crest Resort -25
63 -- TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (Heathlands) -30

                          MIA:

                          99. Bayview

                          E&OE.

I seriously need a course, or at least a range, to open.

The small drops are largely the building of new courses, specifically two in N.S.

Agreed - stopped and played it a few years ago on a road trip to Calgary. No bugs and pretty much no other golfers - had the place to myself. Very enjoyable.
