  • Unnamed course near Zephyr Ontario

While checking out Google Maps for a route near Zephyr Ontario, I saw what looks to be a 9 hole course on the southeast corner of Zephyr Road and Concession #3.

Does anyone know anything about these holes/this course?

    No idea.

I dropped into street view at the right angle turn near 11 Dafoe St. and that looks like the entrance gate, probably a clubhouse, a small parking area, a practice green between the first tee and 9/18th green and a sign for the 11th hole (I assume that means they've got 2 sets of tees for each hole).

Cool! I'd love to have something like that in my back yard...

        Hidden Ridge.
Listed on Google as 'permanently closed'.

On Facebook their last posting was in 2016.

According to 'Golf Pass' it was first opened in 1982.
A lot of comments reviews from 2013 but few if any prior to or after that.

Come on Golf Nuts does anyone know anything about this course or has anyone played it?

Never played it, driven by it many, many times, has been closed for a few years.

Right across the road from the ballpark where I played and coached many fastball games in the 70's and 80's.

Seems maybe they took the "Hidden" part a bit too far.

                Thanks for that.

So a corporation pays just under 2 million dollars for an operating golf course and then lets the land lie fallow for 7+ years?

Would that be an example of one major reason why housing prices/the cost of property has increased so much over that same period?

I believe there's a development application in for some houses on a portion of the course.

Without knowing the particulars of this transaction, this is exactly the kind of thing recent federal legislation has been trying to stop.

Essentially it is money laundering. They never have to do anything with the property (and might never) but Canada (Ontario in specific) had become a big target for operations like this. Maybe it gets eventually sold to housing developers, and everybody involved gets rich.

Housing costs have been rising for multiple reasons, the largest being housing growth lagging well behind population growth for decades, as well as the major profitability of the current housing situation for developers, real estate agents, governments, etc.

Never played it, and found out via this thread. It is a shame, as folks in that town, and likely the growing town of Mt. Albert lose out on a course. I hate to see the land just sit there, and if it is needed for housing, fine, but get on with it. The area has a lot of farming , and it could possibly have been used for that, but our governments have failed to protect our land, and have allowed the usual suspects to park their loot of cash.
