  • BLADE OR MALLET? (OR BOTH LOL)

Like a lot of us, Iím a serial putter collector but recently settled on TMís Spider range and my putting has been solid for the past year and a bit...

Iíve always preferred the look of a blade, but began to resign myself that I simply putt better with a mallet.

I was at GT a couple of weeks ago, and was tinkering with a blade with an old school blade/thin pistol style grip and it was so different in look/feel from what Iíd been using I just had to have one...

Low and behold, I putted the lights out last weekend with multiple long putted birds, etc. Wonder if it will last, or if itís just a temporary fling and Iíll be back to Mallets and SuperStrokes??

    - Ian

I have both. I prefer mallet.
I do know new things give great initial excitement then often it's just the break in period and it goes back to normal

True, I bought a TM "counter balanced" putter in Nov. 2016, have used it 3 rounds

I've added a few measured pieces of lead tape in the weight ports to give it a bit more mass - I actually find the stock weight pretty close to ideal, likely as I've opted for an 'old school', no SuperStroke counter-balanced grip...

You can actually order spare weights in 5, 10, 15 and 20g increments - That said, not easy to order these as they appear unavailable on the TM Canadian site (I was able to order the tool to remove the weights from the TM site so I could add some lead tape, but that was it, thinking 15/20g would be too much for these blades).

Solid putter, but assuming the Honeymoon may end at some point - But hopefully not .

Ive gone full circle kind of, very first big name putter I bought was a PING Anser probably 30 plus years ago.
Now I recently bought a PING Anser bronze head, I think itís a model from a couple of years ago, sound slot and a naked top line, Has the true roll grooves and I put a super stroke on it.

I have ave always been a blade putter, outside and f a short stint with a Rossie mallet itís always been Anser style heads for me.
But this new iteration of the Anser feels and looks pretty good to me.

I was a mallet user until about 5 years ago when I demoed and bought my first Scott Cameron blade putter. It just feels good. This year I replaced the pistol grip with one of the ďfatĒ style grips. Still on the fence about that though. I thought it was supposed to help keep my wrists out of the put but I seem to be managing to make putts that are wrist pulls still.

It's the honeymoon syndrome, works with drivers and probably putters also.

New driver, you hit it great at first, over 4 weeks or so you hit it better and better, become more confident and then you get too confident and hit it like crap.

Blade for me. Mid-fat superstroke (squared) with counterbalance in the grip. Better feel than I've had with any other putter but like any putter, it can run hot and cold.

In over 40 years I have only putted with a blade with a plumber's neck, mostly the ping anser style and currently game a Piretti Cottonwood II that could very well be the last putter I ever own. Mallet's just look weird to me.
