  • Sandblasting a wedge

Anyone here ever had their wedges sandblasted? Experience? Location? Cost? Looking for a way to rough up/refresh the face without (to my knowledge) making the club illegal like a groove sharpener would.

Lots of places in the US seem to offer these services. I found a rather inexpensive one called Oughton Golf (I believe that's how it's spelt).

I'm sending 2 irons down as a test ... Going to blast and strip them for a raw finish. He was only charging $18 a club which seems reasonable . I saw.aome of his work in a RAW IRON thread on WRX.

The process you use is somewhat dependent on the type of metal plating
chrome plated irons, will usually have a layer of nickle pkating underneath ,to get to the raw metal, both have to be removed. Very easy to remove chrome plating yourself with muriatic acid.

non chrome plated heads can be sandblasted, hand sanded, or tumbled. Ping refurbishes their cast heads by tumbling.

iron groove sharoening is not illegal unless you change the depth and width of the grooves beyond what is legal . Altering a club via sanding, could render it non confrming, it depends. If you dont play in any competitive events, it shouldnt matter.

@Saxe It won't improve the Bite, in fact the blasting will take the corners of the groove edge.
        Things change.

If the wedges are already raw steel, soaking them overnight in Coke or Pepsi renews them.
