  • Crack in Steel Shaft

I was shortening some irons shafted with Nippon Modus 105 S shafts. The 8 iron developed a small crack right at the butt end (maybe 1/4”). I wrapped it tightly with some electrical tape before gripping. Just wondering if this will hold it, or if the crack is likely to get worse. Anyone have any experience with this?

1/4"inlength at the butt won't make an impact.

to stop a crack from spreading drill an 3/32 dia. hole at the end of the crack.

        Good advice.

I read that also on my ski forum if one as a ski boot that has a crack -> drill a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it from growing.
