After struggling for almost a year with very low ball flights on everything but the wedges and hitting a lot of pulls and duck hooks, I made what appears to be some small grip changes (that I have tried several times in the last 3 months without success) and its all good.
I did two things:
1. pinch the forefinger and thumb of my trailing hand a little and make sure the thick of my palm is firmly seated over the leading hand thumb.
2. firm the grip with pinky finger of my lead hand just a little to make sure I did not re-grip at the top of my swing.
All of a sudden things feel 'right' at the top of the swing and I'm coming through the ball nicely.
On the first hole of the change, I hit a really nice 6 iron. Where I would usually have a low pull hook into the trees on the right, I had a push with a really nice trajectory landing to the left of the green.
Next hole I rip a 5 iron off the tee that starts a little right and draws back to within a foot of my target line. This is followed by a 6 iron right on line to the 100 yard mark.
Next hole I rip a 5 hybrid off the tee that is pushed out a little, but still has a good trajectory and maybe 10 yards more than normal.
Today I put my 3 wood out off the tee 220 to 230 and in the fairway consistently and my irons, though not quite as nice as yesterday are still pretty good and much more on target.
Its like this whole 10 month mess never happened. I'm left wondering why the change worked this time and not on the previous two attempts. Something else must have changed, but I have no idea what.
We'll see how long this lasts before my next adventure begins...
