  • At what age did you start losing….yardage??

Just played my fourth round of season after half dozen range sessions. Outside of the usual “early” season f ups, my yardage is way down. Two clubs on irons and 30-40 off the tee. These are on my pure shots. Nice contact, ball flight etc. it’s a marked difference from even my few rounds last year. I’m not in perfect shape but, spent most of may and June in the yard doing various projects, losing a few lbs and gaining strength. I’m now a mid fifties guy. I know I’m not going to keep up to the youngins but, crap I’m not ready to go whites yet!

What I've lost in length, I've gained in girth.

But seriously, I started golf late (age 40) and it seemed to get better until about 50 or so. 55 was still okay but now at 66 I'm down a full club or more and still choosing the old ones.

I think it's worth trying to find some good speed drills, but haven't done so yet.

I got seriously into golf when I was 40, I am now 55. I’d say I lost about 20+ yards off the Driver and a full club off the irons since about 48-50. However I am a much better golfer now than I was 5-7 years ago.

            Up until age 40 ......280+
            between 40 and 50 .....260+
            50-55 ......240 -260
            55-60.......230 - 250
Playing my first season as a 60 year old and 230-240 seems about average a few less a few more

55 and still hit the irons as far as I always have. Hit the driver and 3 wood further than ever.

72 in September. Most guys my age have really noticed the loss of distance really accelerating with every year and most of us have moved up to the hybrid tees around 5600 yards where the game becomes more fun for us again.

I'm glad you said yardage and not length. That would have been a whole new conversation.

Turned 52 this year and no noticeable distance losses yet but I'm sure they're coming.

You do lose distance with age but you don't lose 30-40 yards or 2 club lengths in one year. Something else going on. Usually problem with your swing.

I was thinking the same. Something else must be going on? Fitness or flexibility issue? Injury?

There is no age . . . different for every person. Somebody with a good swing will be later. Poor mechanic, it will be earlier, as younger you can power through but now you can't . . .
If you think it's hard to meet new people, try picking up the wrong golf ball.

Tes and for me, as I approach 80, obviously I have less power, but my swing + center contact keep improving, to the point that I am about the same for many years now, and actually hoping to gain some

Getting in shape helped me as I age. I am lighter, stronger and fitter than I was 10 years ago.
