  • Need a handicap

    Hello,
Can anyone help me with an approximate handicap for a TGN event?
I use to work at a golf club back in university where I got to play 2-3 x's a week. That was about 10-12 years ago. My index back then was 15.1. Since being married and having kids, my golf outtings have been few and far between. I usually play 2-3 scramble events and 3-4 stroke play rounds per year.
This year I've got 3 scores:
    87 Blues at Wooden sticks
94 Blues at Angus Glen south
    89 Blues at Royal Woodbine.
    Thanks

    Re: Need a handicap

Do you have two more scores from last year? A minimum of five is necessary to properly calculate a Factor. As well, it would be helpful to have the slope and rating for each of the tee blocks you played from.

I may be able to help if you can get this information. You can PM me but I won't be that accessible for a couple of days.

You can always create a free account on cadee.ca or oobgolf.com, enter your scores and have your handicap calculated for you.

I do not have scores from last year. I dont think I have enough rounds to get one from cadee or any other site. I was hoping from this small sample size someone would have an idea.

Which tee deck is equivalent to "Blue" at Wooden Sticks? They seem to list their decks by tree species rather than colour.

I can get back to you with an unofficial Factor, based on your single best score however, It won't be acceptable if you are competing for anything. Did you record double bogey max per hole on the three scores you listed?

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but how do you get cadee.ca to calculate a handicap for you? I've added 10+ scores to my profile and my handicap is blank...any suggestions are welcome!

Thank you for your efforts. I do not cap at double bogey but couldn't tell you which scores migh effect edt have a triple. Does this effect ones handicap significantly?

To be honest, I thought it did. Now checking it I don't see it being calculated. oobgolf calculates it though.

i would say 13 would be a good estimate.

i used the scores you had and added two more at average of the 3 you had and used average slope and rating of the course you have played.

Wow, that seems low. Wouldn't that mean I should be shooting 13 above the course rating constantly? Does a handicap try to have you shoot par relative to the course rating?

Absolutely and totally. Based on this, and that you have less than 5 scores, it is impossible to calculate even an unofficial Factor.

No, it doesn't mean that at all. Have a look here for a better understanding of how a Factor works:

with a 13 factor your course handicap for say wooden sticks would be 13*132/113 or about 15

this means that 87 would be your fair score on that course. you would be expected to shot a score in that range about half the time.

handicap is not based on average score its based on best potential.

Much less than half the time and 13 is used as an example only and therefore, the course handicap is as well.
