The City has been making changes to some degree based on a study by KPMG (yeah a really preeminent golf consulting firm) that seems to have disappeared from the City website. Having written and read more consulting reports than I want to remember it was written to attempt to justify a preconceived conclusion and recommended closing River Road.

I think River road is the best of the city courses and really like Thames and both courses at Fanshawe for the price. All of the courses suffer from a lack of range for warm up and practice areas, less than ideal conditions and minimal ambience.

The greens were good and love the layout. The fairways are browned out but some areas are completely lacking grass. I'm not sure about the weather but seems 2020 has not been a good rain year. So take it for what its worth...its a fantastic course, good layout and one I would recommend if the player isn't a condition snob.
The overgrowth around the bunkers is suppose to be there. It’s called eyebrows. It’s part of the design.

This is a great option as well tbh from a guy that knows his courses.

Here is an example which was tame compared to some others on the course. I took this picture because I liked how the bunkers were layered and not as an example to disparage the bunkers.

Again. I really like the course, love the design and for what it is. Part of the charm is the low green fees and with that some of the things people have mentioned in the Tarandowah thread could or should be overlooked. However, its still worth mentioning the bad along with the good to provide as much information as possible to the masses. And IMO, the good significantly outweighs the bad and the upside is huge.

I agree they are designed that way (eyebrow). I also agree that the lack of funding means minimal fescue management. I played proper eyebrows on the recently renovated holes at the Cutten club, and proper well maintained fescue at red tail. No one is expecting this of tarandowah so maybe a compromise should be made if they can't keep the weeds out of the long grasses.

Trying not to turn this into another tarandowah thread.

London has a ton of Stanley Thompson courses surrounding it as well if you can get on them, Highland, sunningdale, westhaven and union are all worth checking out if you can find a member to take you.

I play there every week. Could it be thinned out yes but unfortunately the past has created this issue. It is what it is a penalty area for hitting a bad shot.

To each their own I guess. That photo shares makes me want to go play Tarandowah even more!

You could probably get on to Greenhills. Not a great course, but still worth a play.

I just got finished a couple of weeks of playing northwest of London. Overall I was impressed with how great the courses were and from an overall experience (pace of play, people I was paired with, cost, staff friendliness).

                      Top 3 I'd say were

                      Seaforth
                      Ironwood (Exeter)
                      Widder Station (Thedford)
