  • Greetings From KW

    Hi Everyone.

I just found this website and thought I would join up. My girlfriend think's I'm obsessed with this game as I have set up my own little putting course in the living room with hockey tape for holes. And there are always golf balls around the house. Little does she know I will become more of a golf nut because of this site!

Just wanted to say Hi to everyone!

    Best of luck in 08

Where is the Kdub do you play most of your golf?

BTW, there are more than a few other KW and area members on here and we normally attend most of the events to represent the WEST SIDE.

I reside in the Conestoga College area of town.
Canada's best golf instructor is Nick Starchuk.

This is going to be my first season around here in KW.

What are some good places to play.

And if anyone is ever looking for an extra, I'm always game!

                  all the best!

Sounds good! I'm in the area as well...although a little east of you.

Some half decent tracks, Grey Silo of course (little pricier than some around), Whistle Bear, now private, but you may be able to get on with a member. Cambridge G&CC, Victoria Park East, Guelph Lakes (I'm not partial, but some guys like it) Elmira isnt too bad, fairly short but tight. CalErin is one of my favs, a bit of a drive for you though as its 25 minutes east of me. Paris has a fairly nice track down there that shouldnt be too far of a drive.

Thats a few off the top of my head. I'm going to be trying to get out twice a week on twilights at Vic East...and then somewhere else once a week during the weekend. Your more than welcome to join me as its usually myself and one or two buddies.

                    See you on the links!

I've heard those ones are good. I myself have done a little research about courses around here and am interested in playing puslinch lake. Has anyone ever played here? What is the course like. And for that matter, what are the ones owned by the city of kitchener like as well.

                            Re: Greetings From KW

I haven't played there in many years but the course used to be in pretty good shape. Puslinch Lake is very short with many of the par 4's driveable even though the green isn't visable from the tee. I would guess there are one of the cheaper green fees you'll find in the area.

Doon Valley GC is the middle length of the three city run tracks in KW. Always in good shape and recently not all that busy. Back when they offered full memberships Doon and Rockway were very busy places. Those days are long gone though, unfortunately. I played much of my junior golf at Doon and the atmosphere then was great. Doon gets slightly tougher each year as the trees that where planted grow more. You'll likely enjoy the course.

Rockway GC is quite a bit shorter but pretty tight. Small greens and big trees are the name of the game at Rockway. Always in good condition but has the ability to play slowly at times. With all the par 5's reachable in two you can expect that though. The Twin City Invitational was one of the best tournaments in the area (held at Rockway) back in the 80's. A few years back I played it and the 7 hrs it took to play may prevent me from re-entering.

I've only played Grey Silo a few times but it was in good shape every time. GS is by far the toughest of the city tracks and the longest. It's also the only one with a normal practice facility. (Both Doon and Rockway have practice areas requiring you to bring your own balls) I can't speak to how busy GS is or their rates because I've not been there lately.

The Oaks of St George is another very solid option. VERY tight track that plays about 6600, if memory serves.
