New golfer here, took it up last summer, chipping around in my backyard. This winter, me and the missus started with TW07 on the couch (lessons in course management), moved to sims for a few months (I prefer the AboutGolf sim at OIGC). My first time out was early May at Humber Valley (95). I've got a few more rounds to post to reach 20, but my provisional HCP is 25 rounded, range is 90-106 depending upon mood, lower back health and CGR factor.
Played most of the municipal courses a few times, and I'm very impressed with the value (day of week/time of play matters so much!). Richmond Hill is a good challenge for me, and they appear to do a great job keeping it nice. It's just that death march on 18 that kills me. I'm a good walker, but can be easily convinced to ride at Glen Eagle.
Best golf experience so far (beside chipping around with my dad) was yesterday at Bond Head - Plummer & Bennett, Fehrty, getting my a$$ handed to me by three lovely Golf Pros on the beautiful hills and tiny, slippery targets they call greens of the North course.
Courses I'd love to play next:
Royal Woodbine
Woodington Lake
BraeBen
Angus Glen
Oliver's Nest
Glen Abbey (if it dries out a bit)
Whirlpool
I'd also like to hear from avid golfers about their approach to economical play - whether pay-per-round, discount/coupon schemes, club memberships, etc. Gotta save where you can - baby needs new gear (maybe a swing coach too)
Hope that a spot remains for tomorrow at Copeland Woods, if not I'll see if I can catch the next wave.
Regards,
Bob
