Being new. I apologize if this subject has been discussed, but didn't notice it in my search.

Need some good ideas-short of murder- to handle "Ball Hawkers".

I am relatively relaxed golfer, very little gets under my skin. But when I have to call some cat from the stream bank to remind him its his shot then wait while he meanders across the fairway to his ball, (if he remembers where it is) I burn.

    Is there a pill available?????

I would just remind him that there is a time limit on a golf course, and you would rather not have to deal with being hassled by the groups behind you and/or a course marshall.

Or suggest if just wants to walk around he can go to a park, see some nice nature and he doesn't have to pay $50-$100 to do so, and can take as much time as he likes.

I will mention at the start of the round that we should play "ready golf". First on his ball and ready to go should hit.

I had to do the Sabatini routine on my recent trip. I was playing a muni course in Houston and one of the guys was always in the woods or water hazards looking for balls. After asking him to pay attention to the game a bit more and less to looking for balls, the rest of the 3some (myself included) just left him alone in the 4th fairway. He didn't catch up with us until the 6th tee, and never looked for another ball. It turns out the marshall found him playing alone on the 4th green, in front of a 4some, and gave him a lift to catch up, missing the 5th hole entirely. It was a little tense for a while, but the rest of the round went ok.

It'd just ask him if I could 'play through'.

As suggested, I'd play threw and leave the offender behind.

Yes,the fishermen remind me of Hounddogs who loose it when they sniff a trail. In the beginning my buddy did it for a short excruciating while. After a few games like that I started to play on and finish the hole, plant the flag, and walk over to the next tee and not say a word.It usually got me the "what's your hurry speech".I'd fire back with "if you wanna go shopping, take the wife you cheap *******."

I totally agree - I sometimes play with a guy who pulls this stunt and our group simply will play on without him.

I keep mentioning to these types that I've got a case of empties in the car that I'll donate to his cause that will more than offset the cost of his lost Pineapple .... er Pinnacle. Otherwise, I'll ask him whether he's got his ball retriever regripped recently.

I know a guy who was the worst ball hawker on the face of the earth - it was almost like a sickness for him, he'd get a rush finding a Pro V1 and would talk about the rest of the round. This was until he got the worst case of posion ivy on the face of the earth .... had to be hospitalized .... this cured him forever from ballhawking.

When I played with a 3some and one of them was a ball hawk, the rest of us played out shots while he was rooting around in the woods and we just walked/drove on to the green and left him in the woods. He got the idea really quickly, particularly when the marshall found him playing alone in front of a 4some and behind a 3some.

my pops is like that, but he never holds up play. i.e. when we're waiting on players, when we are alone no one behind or in front, if he topped his ball 100 yards and i'm on the green i'll take the cart and he'll skim the edges of the trees, if hes picked up or out of the hole etc. etc. Hes really good at finding balls and keeping pace. We usually come out with a dozen good balls a round.

To every ball hawker I've ever played with I always politley ask "Do you need balls ?...cause I've got tons, you REALLY, REALLY dont need to fish them outta the river....just ask". *Note....REALLY, REALLY...might have a slightly sarcastic tone when i say it.
I gotta say that I've never thought of pulling a Rory though...food for thought.
