I explained it is 2019 and there are options.

    1. a mobile app we're after every whole the two golfers agree on a score and it is automatically entered & linked. Also to ensure no digital error or malfunction, use the old pencil & paper and confirm.

    2. that at the end of the round in the scorer's tent they both add up the scores and a third Independent party ensures that no one has made a mistake before they sign & leave. No idea how that did not happen and remember she had her score CORRECT.

    3. since this is a serious tournament that a Marshall be with them and record the scores for them at the end of every hole.

Please will one person explain why those are so difficult an option in 2019?

Players should think of their scorecard just as they do a personal cheque - make sure it's right before signing it. By signing, they are certifying that it is correct.
Any mistake could be expensive or embarrassing.

All of your "simple" solutions are more convoluted than the current procedure: each player signs her card at the end of the round, attesting to her score on each of the holes played. There can be nothing simpler than that.

Yes, players need to have a brain and they need to PAY ATTENTION to what they're doing. Alas, we live in a time where people want "apps" to free them from the hassle of having to actually think.

All of the "apps" out there are making people so stupid, it's not even funny.

One responsibility. Ensure the correct score is recorded for the hole.

If you cannot do this, you have failed and deserve the repercussions.

Should they all receive participation certificates and ribbons just for playing as well?

The technology option is not the solution. I golf with quite a few people who do not want their phones on the course. They enjoy the round of golf as a means to escape the outside world. Phones are a distraction at the best of times. Trying to get some of the older members at my club to enter their scores via an app would never happen. They have a hard enough time hitting the scan button to enter their cards at the end of the round.

And which of these options were available to the player? And if she didn't use them who should pay the price?

Of course adding scores doesn't help. If hole scores are transposed the total will be the same but the hole scores will be wrong. It's still a penalty.
Just read the hole by hole score from your card to your marker. Simples

Putting isn't golf, greens should be treated almost the same as water hazards: you land on them, then add two strokes to your score.

Perhaps we are immune to the posts over the years and many incarnations of Anthony that we are just unable to convince ourselves of the Non-stupidity ...

I thought about it, but ultimately decided against it. People can be sensitive about having their English or grammar corrected.

Like people who say they "could care less" about something, when they have no interest in it. If you COULD care less, it means that you care somewhat. What they really mean is they could NOT care less. In other words, they care so little, that it is not possible to care less.

                Sigh

Don't get me started on the "Woodington Lakes" bunch.

                  .
Marker and Player both sign on the same scorecard that's how it is and if you are that ignorant and don't even care to check your own score then, yes you deserve to be disqualified. Also what you are asking here is same as how things are done minus third person. Couldn't stop laughing at your comments hideous at best

These are interesting and all would likely work. However, there is a simpler and even better solution. Put your hole by hole tear off strip of scores underneath those on your scorecard and discuss any differences before signing the card.
You are right. We have been doing this for years and its worked just fine except for those stupid/careless enough not to. Make mistakes learning experiences.

A mobile app will only identify invalid information, not incorrect information.

If you don't understand the difference, use your Google app....

Those are not difficult, but unnecessary and it only serves the purpose of "preventing" someone making a careless mistake and not own it. Think most of us agree that the player has ultimate responsibility to check his/her submitted official score, and the player has plenty of time to do so BEFORE signing. I dont see why we will need extra technology, extra people just to prevent someone from submitting the wrong score, when its his/her own score and it should mean much since its a tournament and not a casual round.

One has to take responsibility and own the consequence and that should start at a young age.

100% agree. As a competitive golfer, your score card is more often than not are in the slightly over par/par territory and lower. So, knowing how you shoot after a round is not/should not be difficult to remember...and if you don't, owning your mistake and taking your medicine now, can only be beneficial and prevent yourself from being too lackadaisical about score keeping accuracy.
