  • TheSaxeMachine's TGN Experience at the Titleist National Fitting Centre

TGN member TheSaxemachine was another lucky participant in TGN's Titleist Fitting Experience at Eagle's Nest on Saturday January 13th.

Michael lives in Newmarket and plays about 30 rounds per year, usually north of Toronto. He shoots mid-80's with the best parts of his game being his driving and wedges. For improvement, he's looking for better consistency with his irons.

An advocate of being custom fit, Michael started his fitting with an already rock solid bag! TheSaxeMachine's WITB before the fitting:
    • TaylorMade M2 Driver
    • TaylorMade M1 3 Wood
    • Taylormade RBZ Hybrid
    • Srixon 765 Irons
    • Titleist Vokey SM6 Wedges
    • TaylorMade Mullen Putter / Odyssey 7
Check out his own WITB video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL6hkBsNr8w

From Titleist's 2018 iron lineup, Michael tested TM-B's and Titleist's new AP3 model head to head against his own Srixon 765's. With a preference for Project X LZ shafts, the AP3 tested longer on average then the Srixon 765 in a head to head. He also picked up substantial yardage on the hybrid he was fit for and won as part of the contest which was a Titleist 818 H1 with Project X Even Flow Black 85 6.0

"Overall a great modern fitting facility with all the gear you would expect to be properly fit into a set of clubs. The fact you can be fit outside during the warmer months is a bonus"

Thanks again to Titleist for hosting TheSaxemachine.

Given the loft differences between the two, that is no surprise. One degree stronger and a larger head can produce more ball speed. Was the Project X LZ shaft used in both clubs? That too can add to the difference.

That's some seriously great height and landing angle! Which iron was this, didn't notice that in the write up?

I play Srixon 765s with the Projext X LZ. Was fit into an AP3 with the same shaft. During my fitting I was curious if we could get the ball to fly a bit lower and/or with more spin but no dice. I hit the ball high. Worse problems to have I guess.

The AP3 produces very high flights and for many people lower spin which can add to distance attained.

Holy crap that went high! Would be like dropping darts to hit that high. I'm super jealous!
