  • Steveoo's SIM Build

I renovated my old barn last winter up until the spring. Now it's time to start my sim build!!
I will from time to time pick the community's brains for advice and input.
I'm currently looking for a heat source. Initially I was going to install baseboard heaters but due to the length of the wire going for my panel to the barn and the cost associated with the install and cost of electricity I've decided to go another way.
I looked at a propane system but costs seem to be prohibitive as well.
I kind of settled on getting a used oil furnace. From prowling Kijiji it looks like I can get a furnace ,tank and chimney for around the $400 range.
Anyone out there have any experience installing these as I have a few questions.

I have no knowledge in this area so can not add any value to this thread now, nor likely at any point in the future. But I'll be following it because it sounds like a really cool project! Good luck

Do you need a hitting mat? I have used bulb Sony projectors and also used 10'x13' impact mats (the ones that go behind a screen) if that's something that you need. Let me know.

                Very cool project.

I doubt I'd ever get it completed though, as soon as I walk into a barn all I can think about is how many cars they hold...

                Have fun!
Still getting the hang of this game!

Hey Steveo . . . a pellet stove would probably be easier than an oil furnace . . . but a bit more expensive. Easy to install, all you need is electricity and a small chimney. Might be a pain to carry pellet bags . . . looks like a great idea. Show us pictures regularly . . .
If you think it's hard to meet new people, try picking up the wrong golf ball.

                    Update time.
                    Electrical 90% done.
Bought excellent condition Lennox oil furnace for $100 Also 3 year old Selkirk chimney off another guy for $100
Bought $1100 worth of insulation for $500.
Just got home with about 300 sq.ft.of Rymar Pro putt turf remnants for $200.
Still looking for an hvac guy to help with furnace hookup.

I have a brand new Hitachi Projector. It was tested but never used. It was listed here.

Aim at nothing and you will hit it every time.
