Wonder where he'd have ended up if he was born in the 80's?

Moe Norman - Truly one of a kind

I was able to play with Moe in a practice round at the BC Open one year. Also playing with us was a junior member (18 or so). We were playing a relatively short par 3 and the junior member pulled his 9 iron into a bunker short left. Moe immediately said, emphatically, "You can't do that, you can't do that, and proceeded to demonstrate 'that' by hitting his ball right beside the junior's ball in the bunker. Needless to say Moe got up and down. Fabulous capability and great memories.

So in awe of those who knew or go to play with Moe.
When I decided to 'take up' golf again the early 90's I first followed Moe around to different courses and driving ranges to just stand and watch him for hours at a time.
He was uncanny. And his swing had so few moving parts that he never seemed to wear out or injure himself.

there is an old story at Twenty Valley that says Moe once heard that TVGCC had one of the hardest par 3s in Ontario. Moe travelled out to Lincoln, walked straight to the 13th tee deck, dropped a sleeve of balls and proceeded to hit all 3 within 10 feet of the flag, he then looked at the people watching him and said "what's so hard about this hole?"

I was lucky enough to play 5 holes with Moe as a 12 year old when we were members at Spring Lakes in the early 80s. He would play there early in the morning.
Still remember and carry a lot from the experience. He played 5 balls and they all were within a towels distance of each other in the fairway off the tee. He didn't really say much, he just let me tag along, as he knew my Dad from his junior days and Mac used to let him play there for free.
I agree about Moe being potentially hard to pull concepts from. In one video posted on Youtube, he "chastises" "golfers" for doing a particular move, then in another video recorded much later in his life, he claims he is actually doing that very move in every swing.
That being said, that list of Moe's golf "thoughts" floating around online is pretty golden. "Don't think about the money, think about making the putt" type of sayings.
Also the things he says in the fireside chat are pretty amazing, about happiness and achievement. Work without toil.
Great guy and obs so happy that he got the recognition that he deserved. For most of his playing professional career in Canada, that wasn't always sometimes the case unfort.

I was a fan of Moe Norman from the time I first heard about him. Who wouldn't be? I had also been a fan of Titleist. My enthusiasm for them only grew when they decided to support Moe at the end of his career by paying his some $5,000 per month, no strings attached. This isn't a dress rehearsal. Enjoy yourself. There's no do-over.

"I'd wear the grooves down to nothing and then go even farther, so there was a concave area the size of a dime on the sweet spot"
In the original clubhouse at the Ballantrae (Royal Stouffville?) course they had an old set of his irons on the wall. They all had a dime size worn spot right in the middle of every one exactly as he described.

Moe was a club junky and used to haunt all the pro shops in S. Ontario. One day, back in 1968 he visited Chedoke to chat with Ron Plomske, the ***'t Pro, who also hailed from Rockway in Kitchener. I knew Moe enough that he would talk to me and noticed the MacGregor MT persimmon 2-wood I had in my hand that was used as a driver like many of us did back then. Moe said:
"Let me hold that" I obliged. Then he said:
"I want it." I replied:
"No Moe, and if you want one, there are a dozen more of them leaning agianst the wall for $14.95."
He picked up about six of them, gave each a waggle and said:
"Not the same, not the same!"
Moe also loved to bug Nick Weslock, a mutual friend to see if Nick had any extra clubs he could " borrow". Some came back, others did not.In the Hamilton Golf + CC Embroidered Ping Hoofer
