WHAT ARE YOU FAVOURITE MUSCLE CARS?

So coming home from the range today I was behind a '69 Olds Cutlass. I started thinking what are the nicest looking muscle cars versus the best performing cars of that era from each of the big 3. OK...you can include AMC if you want....lol. Here is my list

Nicest looking:

GM - 1968 -72 Olds Cutlass (442)

Ford - 1967-70 Mercury Cougar (gotta love the retractable headlights and sequential turn signals)

Chrysler 1969-74 Dodge Challenger

Best Performing:

GM - 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 - This car had the highest torque rating of ANY muscle car at 500 lbs. Shadowed by Chevelle's it was a sleeper

Ford - 1969 Shelby GT500KR

Chrysler - Hemi Dart (scary fast)

BTW.....check out this story. The car got $280 000 at auction.

68-71 were some good years. Rather partial to the SS Camero or Firebird and love the Mach 1 fastback with louvered back windows. The Roadrunner and Chargers-heck most muscles that time frame were awesome. I also like the older beetles. Not really muscle but they were tough little beasts.

I prefer the chrome look of the 67-68 Mustangs. I also owned a junker 71 Firebird so always loved the the 2nd generations Firebird/TransAms with the round headlamps including the Rockford Files version.

My brother had a 70 GTO Judge, I thought it was ugly and he eventually sold it

Its hard not to fall in love with an early Ford Shelby. When I went to college and rented a house with a bunch of others, the owner of the home had a 67 Shelby in his garage.

My list of desirables:
- 1965 - 1967 Chevelle SS and Beaumont SD 396
(we have a 65 283 SS and a 67 396 SD)
- 1964 1/2 to 1968 Ford Mustang
- Early GTO's nice too, along with 340 Dusters

Overall I am partial to 1965 to 1967 vintage
We had 30 of them when Dad sold the family farm

my first car was a 69 mustang so that would be tops,road runner and dodge duster are on top of the list.

My Corvette in the pic doesn't really fit the "muscle car" definition that in my mind is a grocery getter that with the right options is a fire breather. Most of the cars below could be ordered in the same body style, but perhaps different name with a 6 cyl engine!

My list:

1969 Firebird convertible 350HO/4 speed (I had one in the 70's). Even better, same car but with the 400 Ram Air.

Any GTO before emissions and lower compression ruined them. Either the 389 or 400.

1968-1970 ish Chevelle SS 396 or 454. Coupe or convertible.

Any Dodge/Plymouth with a 383/440/Hemi.

First gen Camaro SS, RS package too. 350 or 396. Blue with white rally stripe.

First gen Camaro Z28. Harder to find with the original 302 engine.

V8 Mustangs....especially the fastback. I want the Bullitt Mustang 1968 390. Or a slightly later Mach 1 perhaps with a 429?

HO versions of the Acadian and Beaumont, Canada only cars.

mid 60's Chevy Impala SS with a big block.

Olds 442 W30 or W31.

I love the older mustang for a classic such as the late 60's fastback but a somewhat modern car I would love to own is an 87 or so Pontiac GNX

My favourite muscle car was my highschool car - 1978 Chevy Monza Spider. Sure, some of my friends had Corvettes and Trans-Ams but what I liked about my car was that it had a small-block V8 stuffed into that tiny body. Painted up in contrasting Ferrari Red and Black with thin aluminum louvers in the back.

It was very quick off the line but had cheap brakes so I was lucky it could stop at all. It also rusted like most domestic vehicles of the day.

I drove it (along with 3 of my buddies) down to Florida and back (without air conditioning). Good memories.
