Here is just one in USA Today (which is not a 'leftist' publication). https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...ks/2289053001/
Trump has made several versions of this claim in the past but there is a lack of evidence that Trump helped or hired people to help on the days following the terrorist attack.
Richard Alles, who was the New York Fire Department battalion chief during the Sept. 11 attack, has repeatedly said that he does not remember Trump having a presence at ground zero.
During an interview with the New York Times, Alles said that despite spending several months at the ground zero site, he "never witnessed" Trump there.
"He was a private citizen at the time. I don’t know what kind of role he could have possibly played," Alles told the Times in July.
There are, however, a couple of photos and interviews that show Trump near ground zero days after the attacks.

In the first known interview after 9/11 he added this comment during his distress,
“Forty Wall St. actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and it was, actually, before the World Trade Center, was the tallest,” Trump said in an interview with WWOR-TV in New York when asked whether his building had been damaged. “And then when they built the World Trade Center, it became known as the second-tallest, and now it’s the tallest.” A concerned citizen?
He claimed $150k from a fund meant to help small businesses around WTC after 9/11. Money his 40 Wall Street firm was not eligible to collect. He responded to calls to return the money by saying he hosted displaced companies in his buildings after 9/11. There is no evidence of this and it was not what the fund was meant to reimburse.
He has said at various times that he went down to ground zero with between 100-125 people from Trump Org. No record and they didn't have that many employees.
On Howard Stern he pledged to donate to the fund for victims and their families, no record of any contribution exists. Let's not forget that his charity sat on money for a decade and used most dispersed funds for the benefit of Trump, not actual charities.
Trump has treated 9/11 and its victims with little respect. His repeated lies and self aggrandizement in the face of the event clearly demonstrate this. The best thing he can do during 9/11 is shut up.
As for your HK comment, criticizing the president and his hypocracy is not a sign of a lack of patriotism or love of their country. In fact the opposite could be implied in a casual reading of Thomas Jefferson.
Instead of trying to find a way to dismiss this why don't you ask yourself why he does this and why it's acceptable to you?
