And the publicity surrounding this will cause many of those same racist songs to be located and played ad infinitum for weeks while they would otherwise have remained lost in obscurity, possibly forever. Not so sure that was a preferred outcome.

I really think they need to consider the times and context under which she sang those songs.

It would have been 100% normal at the time. Sure, she could have decided those were inappropriate songs and chosen not to sing them, but I don't think anyone was really thinking along those lines back then. Certainly not many.

The funny thing is, that both songs seem empathetic of the life of black Americans at the time. Very dated way of showing it in today's environment, but it's hard for me to see anything very negative in these.

I'm no great fan of Kate Smith - I find her singing "God Bless America" brings on my gag reflex, but maybe that's just the song itself.

The irony is, it's this kind of thing that's setting race relations back 100 years. It just creates a huge disdain and divide.
