  • RIP Shane (the Cosmic Cowboy) Gibson

If you listened to Buffalo radio from circa 1972 till about 1989 the dominant 'rock' DJ was Shane Brother Shane, the Cosmic Cowboy primarily on GR55 during the evenings.

Shane was a big supporter of Buffalo during the 'talking proud' days.

A unique combination of a big voice, with a 'greaseball' mentality of drag racing American muscle cars combined with hippy style philosophy. Often ended his shows with Nights in White Satin or Get Together (Come on People Now Smile on Your Brother) by the Youngbloods.

His choice of music could be quite eclectic. I learned about Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson from him. Listened to him all day when Elvis died. First heard Edmund Fitzgerald, Songs in the Key of Life and others on his show.

When he left radio, he moved to Virginia to start a new carry as a PGA member teaching pro.

Losing him seems like I have lost part of my 'youth'.
