Also, we failed to be invited to join the US, Australia and Great Britain in a Naval defence pact to help protect against Chinese aggression. I think we could have found a way to be of material assistance in this in a myriad of ways…

Maybe if we send a fleet of lobster boats they might have us along for mock target practice

Justine is hoping to avoid an independent inquiry by appointing a "special rapporteur" who he expects will sweep the whole tawdry affair under the rug. Unfortunately for him and us, David Johnston, as great a guy as he might be, is horribly compromised. From today's NP...

      • I'm prepared to give Mr. Johnston the benefit of the doubt when it comes to discharging his duty. That said, I am not amused by the manner in which our PM and his team have avoided actually answering the questions that have arisen in connection with this issue. I don't believe that the Liberals would cooperate with the Chinese government to influence the outcome of our elections. If that's so, though, then there's no apparent reason to dance around the legitimate questions that have been posed by non-Liberals. This is not the time to play games.

This isn't a dress rehearsal. Enjoy yourself. There's no do-over.

Avoiding answering questions is the go-to strategy that JT has always used, e.g. the Lavalin affair and just about any other scandal one can call up. But...the Liberals are not unique in that regard.

I never considered that the liberals might cooperate with the Chinese to influence the elections. Has that been suggested? I am not aware of that, if it was. Looking the other way maybe? After the Huawei and two Michaels thing, even that would be a travesty. And one might think revealing any Chinese interference, if they knew, would be yet another example of Chinese duplicity that might play in the Libs favour.

Yes, not the time to play games. Not only is this a critically important issue to sort out, JT's credibility is on the line - and the worse this gets, it will equally taint the NDP and put pressure on the agreement with the Libs.

It is getting to the stage where the reasonable assumption is JT or the Liberal party truly have something either illegal or treasonous to hide.
It's becoming increasingly apperant that Justine, and his compromised Liberal Party, are no longer fit for duty. The Coifed Charm Party is done..
In the wake of the shiat show Xi's China Silk policies of tying up the mineral resources of the 3rd world, Justine's quiet acquiessence has Xi becoming his puppette.Master, same as Putin had his in Trump.
What's left for the two next? A puppeteer show on Broadway?

The Trudeau family's history and the Liberals compliance with communist leaders is well documented..

Agree, but unfortunately the CPC has chosen to roll with the least appealing candidate they could find, so we're again at high risk of another Liberal minority government.

              • I don't think Trudeau has had shady dealings with the Chinese. He's had dealings with them of course. They're our 3rd biggest trading partner. They're vital to us.

I hate Trudeau's smug obfuscations in QP. Enough already.

It's time to move on from him. Beyond time, really. Too bad the CPC is unable to position themselves for a win.

I agree. The Liberal Party should have a new leader in place prior to the next election.

There are just too many reasons to no longer support Trudeau.

Freeland might be the most competent, but she also has a significant number who oppose her.

                  Joly might have a chance.
I am still holding up some hope that Mark Carney decides to enter the fray.

I wonder what the probability of a win are for a new liberal leader. Typically, after 3 terms, the country is ready for a change of party.

Donny? I think there is a distinct difference in the behavior of the two men don't you think? I have seen no one call him Donna.

There is a distinct difference in behavior, but for those who love him there is no such distinction. Does bad behavior somehow negate the courtesy of respectful discourse? Do we all really need to crowd the low road and wallow in the mud?

                            The joys of polarized politics.

Well, one is using a feminine version of a name, misogyny perhaps? The other uses a juvenile version of a name. The latter can be quite easily justified by Trump's petulant and childish behaviour.

@IR: I don’t believe the Liberal leadership or Trudeau have had inappropriate direct dealings with the CPC either. My point was more that when a group of people are so hell bent on avoiding answering questions, it sounds more and more like there is definitely something to hide.

More to the point, Telford/JT/Cabinet and/or other members of the PMO being told by CSIS of clear, factual interference by the CPC or its’ agents in actively trying to influence specific campaigns of individual MPs in specific ridings and IGNORED the warnings, or dismissed them because “intelligence sources can frequently be wrong” (my read is CSIS would likely have made damn sure their ducks were in order before bringing it to Cabinet/PMO/PM attention, so would have a fair degree of verification done beforehand) , that they could well have taken the cynical/pragmatic approach of let them have at it….the enemy of my enemy (the Conservative Prty) is my friend. Ignoring such information , IMO, is tantamount to approving the activity without being directly in contact with the Chinese Government.
