Once you and/or your family has been to the trough, it is very hard to give up the habit.

Nothing like someone who preaches about 'common sense', and/or opening the economy and getting government 'off the backs of business/people' but who is or whose family has been on the government payroll for for decades.

Further evidence that despite what they claim during election campaigns and what their followers believe and regurgitate, in fact Conservative political leaders have an almost universal record for increasing government deficits when in power.

From those blatantly Liberal propaganda machines The Fraser Institute and The Toronto Sun.

Ford outspending Wynne government he condemned for overspending, says report
      Lorrie Goldstein -Aug 04, 2022

Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative government will outspend the previous government of Liberal premier Kathleen Wynne this year, even when adjusted for inflation and COVID-19 expenditures, according to a new study by the Fraser Institute.

“When in opposition, the PCs frequently criticized the Liberal government’s spending, but now the Ford government plans to actually spend more than the Wynne government ever did,” said the Fraser Institute’s Ben Eisen, co-author of the report, ‘Ford Government Plans to Outspend the Wynne Government’, by the fiscally conservative think tank.

In fact, even before the pandemic hit, the Ford government was mimicking the spendthrift policies of the Wynne government rather than reforming them, starting with its first budget in 2019.

The study says Ford’s 2022-23 budget, released before the June provincial election and which the government intends to pass into law when the legislature resumes sitting on Monday, will “increase per-person program spending by 2.9% to $11,783, which is $282 more than the Wynne government spent during its last year in office.” (These figures are adjusted for inflation and exclude COVID-19 spending.)

As a result, the Ford government is forecasting larger budget deficits than it inherited from the Wynne government — which it condemned for fiscal irresponsibility when the PCs were the official opposition and the Liberals were in power.

The Fraser Institute study says that under Ford, the province’s per person net debt will increase from $27,889 in 2021-22 to $28,930 in 2024-25 — essentially mirroring the Wynne government’s pace of debt accumulation.

NEW: Premier Doug Ford names 43 of his MPPs to be parliamentary assistants, which gives them each a $16,600 bump in pay above the standard MPP salary of $116,500. Added to his 30-member cabinet, this means 73/83 PCs have extra duties & extra pay. #onpoli

This is not the complete list. It is only the new ones that are identified. Some Ministries are not identified here, e.g. Transportation, Forestry etc. and they have Associate Ministers / Parliamentary Assistants, etc. or the like.

But none of this is new, every administration has worked this way for decades.

That was really some next level BS when she said ER closures were due to ebbs and flows of staffing because of overlapping summer vacations. This has been going on for months now.

I missed the presser or wherever she said that...but if that's what she said that's 100% BS! I've never, ever, heard of an ER being closed until recently...and in my 5 years of working at a hospital I can say with certainty that it has nothing to do with overlapping vacations. There are policies against that and no administrative staff or unit manager would ever approve vacation that would leave them so short as to close their department...we don't have an ER but we can barely keep the place clean, keep the lights on, and prepare the meals because we don't have enough staff.

Here's an article on her 'passing of the buck.'

Ontario's health minister said Monday that six hospitals had to close departments — including ERs — over the weekend, but argued that the situation wasn't unprecedented.

Well she is highly qualified to be the Minister of Health.

Sylvia Jones attended Fanshawe College, where she received a diploma in radio broadcasting.
That ranks up there with Mike Harris making John Snobelen the Minister of Education.
