  • Travelling to Europe, need SIM recommendations

Will be travelling to Europe this summer for about 3 weeks.

looking at putting a ESim on my phone, anyone have companies they’ve used in the past that have worked well

    a friend used this recently.

Data packs with local rates. Manage your eSIMs and top-up on the go with Airalo.

It was a little quirky to get setup but once done, worked great

I depends (a bit) where you're going in Europe. If you're going to some of the Eastern European countries, you may wish to use an old phone that you can treat as a "burner".

If you're not going to Eastern Europe, I would probably suggest an Orange Holiday Europe eSim. That gives you 20gb of data, and is valid for 14 days, for about $50 USD. That can be purchased from Orange before you go, and you can top it up for another week while you're there. (just don't activate the eSim till you land in Europe)

You can also buy a Sim before you go (Amazon), but it will typically cost more than purchasing directly from Orange.

If you don't want to buy before you go, most major European airports will have an Orange kiosk.

Will be in UK/Italy. Was looking at the following which seemed pretty legit.

Sorry for the hijack I'll look into Orange, headed to Italy only for 10 days mid June. Any other suggestions on SIMS and plans thanks

Orange seems ok, but doesn't seem to have any unlimited plans.

Be very careful when you purchase what you think is "unlimited data". Often, that means nothing more than when you use your limit, you can "top up" that eSim for more data. In other cases, the plan will throttle your data speed to almost unusable levels. Be prepared to read a LOT of fine print.

The quality of coverage will also vary depending on the supplier. That's why I recommended Orange. They're solid all across the EU.

I'm there now. I didn't find anything reasonable that included text and calls. So I just use my pokefi device. Cost $180 several years ago and I pay $20 for 5gb. Run out, top up. Lasts a long time of you don't do crazy stuff like videos, etc.. I make no calls and use WhatsApp for texting.

My buddy did something different. He went to one of those kiosks on the airport he landed in. They put him on a monthly plan with quite a bit of data, text, and calls. With a sim. About $30 monthly. They instructed him to cancel once his 3 week trip was over. Worked perfectly.

Orange seems to be a popular pick, Also came across:
                  Have a question? - Airalo

But appears you need separate plans for Italy and UK.
