Does anyone know if Phil plans to play Champions Tour at all this year or soon? Do they have a minimum number of events to play, or can he play one here and there while continuing to play on the main tour as well?

His pressers so far he keeps talking about his increased swing speed and hitting bombs and thinking he can still compete on the regular tour. I think said he won’t be doing playing any events this year.

His pro am partners this week in Saudi are the Founders of the Tour....

After playing with Majed Al-Sorour, CEO of the Saudi Golf Federation, Colin Neville, of The Raine Group, London financier Andrew Gardiner and one other man only identified as “Richard,” Dempster quotes Mickelson has fascinated by the league concept.

^^^^ well , even as one of the oldest he was top 20 in driving distance on tour last season and well over 300yd average so distance isn't a concern. He did have an off year though performance wise.

I think he sticks with the PGA tour a few more seasons

If there's money to be had it may work. How else to do you explain American PGA tour multi-millionaires flying over to Europe, Asia and elsewhere for a one-off tournament?

I think it could work. There are a lot of great golfers with big personalities that are so much fun to watch. They may not have the talent to be top 50 on the pga tour but they are really really good and more entertaining, you could mic them up. Why not have another World tour that plays at a lot of cool world venues and builds up the personalities like WWF; also the ability to play different formats. The players that want to play on the PGA tour can, might be great for guys that are 40+ that want to make big money and who we all love to watch. I love watching Champions because I like Jimenez. PGA is scared of competition but for the viewer, it's a great thing.

Based on Rick Shiels interview with one of the founders of the league - this is the format

              PGL format

48 players playing individually and in 12 teams of 4.
18 events (3 days no cuts) running from Jan to Aug.
10 in US, 3 in Eur, 3 in Asia, 1 in Aust and 1 M. East
Each event will have $10m purse
After 17 events - an individual World Champion crowned
18th event is team championship playoff - $40m purse.
Team playoff will be seeded based on first 17 week.
Team will pick 2 of the 4 players scores (before the round starts) and those scores count. Best scores over 3 days wins.

              Majors will "not be touched"

                Brooks is out

Brooks Koepka: "I'm out of the PGL. I'm going with the PGA Tour." Pretty big blow to Premier Golf League to have Brooks and Rory not interested.

So from the start we know who the best / favourite / popular players in the world are.
Once they join PGL, how do players fall-in or fall-out of the PGL as there is no previous point of reference ( PGA or Euro tour results/stats ) to establish who is "worthy" ? Or do they view the PGL as top-alpha-dog, and PGA / Euro Tours become lowly feeder leagues ? If Rory or Brooks join, at what point do they suck enough to be kicked out of such an exclusive league ?

I would watch if they get some personable players mic’d up and there is much less commentator chatter.

Most top players no longer only play PGA tour events - they go over and play in the European Tour and like the flexibility of being their own masters to choose when and where. With the big names saying no, so far, this could be dead before it starts.
As for Phil - time to pack it in! While his loss of excess bulk makes him look much healthier, he seems to have completely lost his game - all facets. The Champions Tour may be his salvation.

Toss in Pat Perez and you have a winning group. Doomed to fail from day one.

BBC is reporting that this idea is being revived for a 2023 start:

The man behind the Premier Golf League and his $20bn backers are "ready to go" with their new 18-event series and are planning talks with the PGA and European Tours this summer.

                                - 18 tournaments, 12 played on US soil with total prize money @ 20M each. The most on PGA Tour today is 15M @ The Player.

Interesting to see how this unfold.
