  • 17th at TPC Sawgrass

The pros make it look easy. It's not.

They captured video and data of every amateur that played No. 17 @TPCSawgrass for one day.

there are some godawful swings in that video.

I have stood where they are hitting. It is an intimidating shot for sure but not overly long.

Makes me feel better about my game . . .
If you think it's hard to meet new people, try picking up the wrong golf ball.

When Chris and I played there 10 years ago I hit an eight iron on to the front of the green and it backed down to the fringe. The flag was front right center, pitched it up to 2' and made the putt. I was very happy with my par-par-par finish to shoot 82.

The shot to 17 is not that intimidating if you keep your nerves quiet.

It might be worse than that, I could see stubborn players dunking a couple and then another one from the drop area.

The drop zone is pretty close to the green - 80 yds for the pros and probably shorter for an amateur. That's the dreaded in between zone and I would rather have a full club in.

That and out of ego, a lot of guys would tee up multiple balls until which point they hit the green.

I haven’t played the TPC but have the replica of it at Wooden Sticks more than a dozen times, the green is quite large and not that difficult to hit . I don’t think I have put one in the water…yet .

that said the hole at WS is typically down wind making it easier whereas the one at TPC is more exposed to the wind from different directions . Plus TPC will stimp out at 12 and Wooden Sticks 9 ish so a huge difference

the green is much more severely contoured than one gets from the view on TV .

Not sure if I'd call it ego, or life experience or just value for money but....

If I'd gone all the way to Scottsdale and got a tee time at TPC Sawgrass and coughed up $600US, you can bet I would want to hit the green on 17 from the tees.

I might give up eventually, but not for the first 5 balls....

It would play very long from Scottsdale, considering it's in Florida.

I would say absolutely horrendous swings, especially for those taking on a pro set-up course at close to $1000 a round.

I was getting a tour of the course about 12 years ago and stood on the tee and green. While on the tee, some guys were teeing off. I regret not asking them if I could take a swing. They were at the shorter tees, about 100 yards as this was 2 weeks before the tourney and the pro tees were closed.

                            HAHAHAHA!

I wish I had a time machine to go back and erase that!

I must have been distracted or multitasking or something....

Or maybe it's just the world's longest par 3?
