Yup - I had trouble finding out what and why and still have a question.

The hole in the wooden post is above the water in the PA so the ball is in the PA.

Balls that manage to stop on the top of the bulkhead over the water are also in the PA, but that doesn't mean you can't play them - it's a more-or-less easy putt/chip off the wood.

My outstanding question (which I may figure out with one more cup of coffee) is why did he have to drop 50 yds back in the fairway on the other side of the water? Surely there was a spot on the bulkhead or even the grass that was 2 club lengths away and no closer to the hole?

I would bet that they did.

Both SubAir and PrecissionAire systems are very good at helping to get rid of large amounts of water and reducing rain delays. To get them consistently crusty, like they were Thursday and early Friday, takes a bit longer. (The Stadium Course switched to PrecissionAire ~2012)

Failing any rain overnight, I think you'll see tougher greens tomorrow.
