  • PGA CHAMPIONSHIP AT OAK HILL

Starting to get excited , not too often a major comes so close to us in Southern Ontario. My buddy and I have 2 'Championship+' tix for the second round and it's literally an easy jaunt to Rochester for us.

Anyone been to any previous tournaments at Oak Hill? Would love here some advice about the venue/course, etc.

    Anyone else going??

This is a nice 15 min video on the course renovation from 2 years ago, narrated by Golf Channel's Rich Lerner.

    Cheers,

    - Ian

Played the East course last summer and its a lovely classic layout that can accomodate large crowds with great sight lines. Expect to walk a fair distance from your drop off point as the golf club is inside a residential community with limited road access. Will be interesting to see if the PGA of America sets the course up with high rough. If they decide otherwise, expect record scoring for a major.

I went in both 2003 and 2013. 2003 was much better organized for spectators - getting to and from the parking and the course was quick and easy. Parking was easy off/on from one of the Interstate highways.

2013 had a different entrance point and different parking. It was quite disappointing given how well 2003 was. Hopefully 2023 will be better than 2013 for those attending.

I was there when Dufner won it. On the way there we did a double header at Mystic and Thundering Waters, then grabbed a hotel on the east end of Buffalo, then headed to Rochester early the next day. I love those old historic courses. Have fun !

Went to watch Tiger in 2013. What a mass of people!!! There were 10-20min people jams where you were unable to move. Would never do it again. Course is beautiful though. I've never seen fairways/greens look so good. Actually looked fake (too perfect).

I found that too there, seemed to be a difficult course to walk around. Probably better to find a spot and park for a while.

I went in 2003 for the 2nd round, the day after the massive black-out of Aug 2003. Course is fantastic and the rough was brutal - high and thick. As mentioned, getting to and from the parking lot via shuttle bus was very easy. Quite easy to get around the course if my memory is correct. I actually lost my glasses at the course, and luckily someone turned them in and tourney sent them back to me free of charge via FedEx. Expect a massive store to buy stuff at. I have also been to the 14 Open at Royal Liverpool and the 19 US Open at Pebble Beach and all 3 were awesome events to go to. Just gotta get to the Masters sometime.

Hi - give this a listen

In this episode, Andy and Garrett discuss the East Course at Oak Hill Country Club, the host of the 2023 PGA Championship. First they bring on Fred Beltz, the club historian, and Andrew Green, the architect behind the recent historical renovation of the East, to talk about the history and character of the golf course. Then Andy and Garrett give their own takes on Oak Hill East, covering its strengths, weaknesses, and how it might play in the upcoming PGA Championship.
