  • Practicing facility at Station Creek

    Hi all,

I'm 30 handicappers just started last year. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on SC membership since it's the closest CL course to me (18 mins drive).
Can anyone comment on the driving range and short-game area at SC? Is it good for beginners to practice? Is there a lot of space setup for different shots, such as bunker, chip, etc..?
My reference is Markham Golf Dome which is really bad.

Another question is how hard is it to book early weekday morning tee time (such as 7am)?

    Thanks a lot!!!

One of the very few GOLD courses with a full practice range.. And too very good. If you are 8 min away, then its a no brainer.

No grass tees, but I practice in the winter off mats, so no big deal for you. And hard sand in the bunker.

              "No grass tees"...is that new?

IMO if you're a new golfer/beginner, mats can be very deceiving and not ideal to practice on if your strikes are not already honed.

There are definitely grass tees. They're a little beat up, but if you're used to public driving ranges, the grass tees are still an improvement. The putting green is good as well. I haven't had a chance to test out the bunker practice area yet.

                  I just joined S.C too.
looks like we have to book driving range if we don’t have tee time booked.
does anybody know how to book range time at S.C?

If it is like other ClubLink courses you need to download golf genius and sign in to the range, call your pro shop and they will let you know and give you the sign in.

Yes, you can book online. Plenty of spots available each day. You need them to set you up in the system first. I asked the guy in the pro shop today and he did it on the spot.

Thanks for the info. I have a tee time tomorrow morning. Will go and get set it up.
On another note, is SC severely understaffed? I drove in on Thursday to check it out, and only 1 guy in the proshop, and maybe 2 staff outside clubhouse, one is managing cart, the other one is filling balls on the range.
Nobody is checking anything. Feels like you could've just walked to the range and play.

Aside from the starters on each course, there's no need to manage the range access. Sometimes, they have a person to check in the cars as they come into the parking lot though to ensure that you have a tee time or range time booked.

Just went to play today. The other member said it's normal to be short-staffed after summer because all the kids are back to school.
                            More self service I guess.

Played Station Creek last Thursday - a beautiful sunny day - went to have a beer on the patio afterwards and the bistro was closed - what’s that all about?
