  • Bending a 2 ball Putter

I bought a Callaway odyssey works 2 ball fang tank Putter last year.
Wanted the longer length for the counter balance effect.
    Ordered 38 inches.

I love my custom Scotty but this high moi Putter has been awesome this past season & this one.

However I find that the length means it brushes my shirt.
I either need to stand a bit away from it with eyes way inside or I get closer but it brushes or I have to lift the heel off ground a bit.

Would getting it bent be doable without damage. Second, would I be correct that in order to stand slightly more over the ball (closer) I would need it bent upright? A couple degrees?

Thx in advance for any help or advice.

Anyone? Thinking of heading to gt in an hour. I guess I can ask there.

But it's hit or miss getting someone who knows there stuff there. If I get a pt staff who knows...

What shaft is in it now?

They can come in all sorts of configurations.
Bending an offset shaft would be tricky indeed.

at 38" you bought a belly putter which is outside the rules now.

just have it trimmed to 35". It won't change the MOI on the head, and there'll be no need to do anything else.

Is not a belly putter. It was never intended to be against the body your confusing with other models.

And the counter weight is in the shaft I cannot just shorten it.
Nor would I want to. It's meant for your hands to go on shaft where they normally would (let's say 34 or 35 inches) with a few inches above the hands to create a counter weight.

if it still snags on your shirt when bent at the minimum allowable 10*lie what then?

Lot's of putters longer than 38 that are not bellies, meant to go along the forearm.

It can be done by some very experienced clubfitters/clubmakers that have the specialized equipment, knowledge and bench skills. It will however cause the shaft to sole relationship to change. When I have done it, I am not fond of the way the shaft angles, and the face orientation wants to change from original position. If the face was square to start, it may open or close when soling the putter. The shaft axis is changed from its original aiming point in relation to the centre of gravity of the putter head. Very rarely does this modification result in the successful soling of the putter that allows you to easily aim the face of the putter. I know that I have never been pleased with the visuals when I have done it. I do warn my clients about the pitfalls.

ask sharkhark if that's what he does.

Snagging on his shirt isn't considered anchoring.

No, of course not and that' not what I implied nor is it his problem.
He wants to change the lie to more upright so the butt of his handle is further away from his body.

when adjusted in an upright lie the putter head moves closer to the feet, at the same time the butt of the shaft moves further away.

Which is what I want. I feel that the putter head is slightly too far away from my feet I want to be a tiny bit more over the ball & at the same time I want my snag issue to go away.

Regarding ask me if I use it on the forearm? No.
Anchored as a belly putter? Again, no.
When Callaway had videos introducing this odyssey works Putter they said at least 2 inches needs to be above your hands to give the counter weight assist in feel & steadying the hands.

They said if you play a shorter Putter then buy the 35 inch version.
If you normally play a 35-36 inch Putter they said to buy the 38 inch version.

Otherwise you'd be too close with hands to end of butt end of grip to gain any supposed counter balance assist...

Ps gt didn't want to bend it. Said the double bend shaft is prone to kinking. Said they could pull grip and cut down but I think I'll live with it or send to Callaway in off season
