really just a personal pref......no difference in distance or accuracy....

some peeps do better with the 400-420 smaller head as they have trouble squaring up the 460.

women often do better with something in the 400 cc range than 460

go with what gives you comfort and confidence and it will work out best

It's not the size of the head but the swing of the club.

Anytime you get over 400cc you will reap most of the rewards of an oversize head which in manufacturing terms is discretionary weighting.
You might want to compare this to the game improvement irons where the mass of the iron is distributed around the perimeter to provide you with the maximum stability on contact.

A smaller head obviously has its mass closer to the impact point. This means that a off-center contact will have the force to rotate the mass around that point since the smaller head does not have its discretionary weighting as far apart to act as a stabilizer.
Visualize a suspended bar with sliding round weights at either end.
Tap the bar at the center and it will not rotate. Tap it anywhere between the string and the weight and it will rotate.
Move the weights closer together. Tap the center and it is still stable. Tap it between the string and the weight and now you will see that it will rotate faster around the center.

I agree, I took out my 15year old Callaway Great Big Bertha 10* Driver out to the course on Saturday..I had amazing result with it. this could seat real pretty next to my 10.5 supertri with 460 CC head.

The size of this thing is no more than the size of a modern 3wood; small in size but deadly accurate. I could possibly use this as alternative club to hit it off the deck on par 5's and i will call it the "super super strong 3wood" perhaps..

Many find the smaller heads easier to work the ball.
The 460 cc with low CG generally want to square up, which makes them harder to work the ball. (but easier to hit)

The COR is the same regardless of size so distance will be about the same.

Looks is another factor. Many players do not like the look of the 460 cc drivers and complain that they look too big.

                Personally I prefer the 400 - 420 cc heads.

For me, distance is the same, however, my DCT is probably the longest that I own personally.

I'm with Jim. Better players can often work the ball better with the smaller head, just like a smaller forged iron is easier to work. Miss the sweetspot and you will suffer more than that of the larger CC.

                    Re: 460cc vs 420cc

Personally I like 400-440 heads w/ deep faces and short crown depth (FT TOUR, J33R 420, 905's, etc)

They launch lower spin less and on a crooked mishit I find they stay within the confines of the tree lines and within a shot to the green.

My expirement with 460 was high pop ups, no real feel, and on mishits deep into the trees as the ball still came ot hot.

Then again, a mishot for me means I still carry 245+ yards so.

                      Re: 460cc vs 420cc

                      Going through this myself

Have always liked workable drivers. Play the D3 because of it.
But, because I'm not a pro and not at the range 5 days a week, my swing gets sloppy mid season. I end up just playing my natural draw.

With that in mind, I picked up a D2 with the same shaft and tipped it the same way. I now have a more forgiving head that I still draw anyways.

Will try this this season and see if I really give up that much. The only possible thing is the D2 launches higher and it's not as easy to hit a lower shot when needed.
