Golf courses are like food and sex - bad golf course is better than no golf course...

I lament the demise of Parkview....

1 - Cardinal East (worst service EVER)
2 - Cardinal West (worst service EVER)
3 - Rolling Hills Championship (flat)
      4 - Hunter's Glen (boring)
5 - Ballantrae (only because I play it so often - parents live there)

I am ashamed to say that I played these courses, but hey we all make mistakes!

        1. Foxbridge (cowpatch)
        2. Parkview
        3. Cresthaven
        4. Rolling Hills
        5. Westview (always in terrible condition whenever I play there)

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned some of these.

Scarlett Woods (bring a hard hat when you play here)
Centennial Park (Cow pastures are in better shape)
          Derrydale (See Centennial comment)

Hmmm, looks like you didn't read the ORIGINAL post which laid out the "simple rules" for this thread (for the most part I would tend to agree with you, tho' Derrydale suits it purposes)

Sorry, my bad. I forgot. In that case, Lowville and Burlington Springs (I think that's the name...It's run by Barb Bunkowski)

Re: Bottom 5 public course in GTA

I think I'm joining this thread a little late, but I just wanted to add a comment about Bloomington Downs.

I think every golfer has had their fair share of bad experiences, but the last time (really...the LAST time) I golfed there, I left in disbelief!

Myself and a couple of buddies were golfing with girlfriends. The girls are all very new to the game and thus, the pace of play was slower than normal. But to compensate, we paired up with the girls and played best-ball which sped up the play considerably. we teed off on a rainy Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

The important detail here is that there was absolutely noone behind us because of the poor weather.

at 3 o'clock, one of the yahoos from the clubhouse drove by to watch us tee off from the tenth tee. He watched the guys tee shots silently, but after seeing the girls tee off he said, "Ohhhh...that explains it."

He then proceeded to tell me that if this were a normal sunny Saturday, that our pace of play would have been unacceptable!!

There are a couple of issues here...

First, it was unbelievably rude - and how are people supposed to begin to play golf if they are ridiculed on the tee by the golf course employees???

Second, there was still plenty of daylight left, and with no one behind us at all (I mean - literally - not a single group behind us on the entire front nine!) why does it matter what the pace of play would have been like on a sunny day???

Obviously, the people in the clubhouse's need to pack up early and go home was more important than having golfers pay a green fee to play their course (if you could call it that).

Anyways, suffice to say that it was enough of a bad experience to prevent me from ever going back there.

Sorry about this....just wanted to vent. I had actually nearly forgotten this incident until I read this thread.

                Boy.

                Anyways....steer clear of this course!!

Nuffstyle: I would have written the club a letter detailing your issue. That is a terrible way to treat anyone, let alone new golfers. No wonder women are leaving the game as quickly as they take it up.

                    Agreed.

That kind of behaviour from any of the club staff (let alone a marshall) is unacceptable. I know I couldn't get away with rattling off wisecracks about the customer... in the presence of the customer!

Kind of agree with you on this one!
It doesn't have the greatest conditions (what do you want for $35/round?) but it is a challenging track (can play long from the tips too!)
I would play here over Don valley / o'shanter / Seaton / or even Deer Creek - any day of the week!

It's not so much that it's difficult, more that it can be unfair, and super distracting with all the low planes overhead. If it were a cheaper course, it wouldn't be an issue, however with their green fees, I think it's just crap. I recognize they charge what they charge due to location, however for that much money you really should get a much better course in better shape and condition. I played there a month or so ago and the goose droppings were just incredible. Someone should tell the folks at Woodbine that an easy way to get rid of golf geese is to have a dog on staff to chase them away. Works great at other course I know that have a dog on hand and no goose crap to be found anywhere.
                              Plus...dogs are cool

And ... Bloomington Downs and Don Valley are NOT in my Bottom-5 list.
Not putting it in the bottom 5, but Don Valley does suck. Despite this, it has 2 great holes back to back. The first hole is not one of them (love the trees blocking the green...classy) but the second hole is a killer par 4. 3 is also a great par 4. That's it. The rest sucks.

Imagine if it were bought by someone and turned good/private? That property is awesom, not to mention the location. It would generate an INCREDIBLE waiting list as a private club.

I authored a 'brief history of Don Valley' about a year ago on this forum, outlining alot of the 'changes' that DV has had (I grew up playing on this course as I lived--still do--in the immediate area)

I maintain, that DV would be MORE enjoyable if the switched the back 9 with the front 9! (especially in the dead of summer...those up & down holes will kill ya!)
