I've only played 2 of them, and totally agree with him about Osprey Hoot...it's my fave of the 3 there (though I enjoy the other 2). Of Coppinwood and Osprey, I can say I wouldn't grow tired of playing either - both great courses IMO.

Re: RT's Best Courses Opened in the Last Decade
Of the 5 I've played...
Tarandowah - Best value in the country, going to try and play it again this summer
Stewart Creek - 17 solid holes and one awful one(9th) as mentioned, would rather drive the extra 15 minutes and play Banff though.
Osprey Hoot - Great course, amazing facility wish we had something similar in Alberta
Eagles Nest - Not sure on this one yet, will have to play it again, didn't like the two styles of bunkering.
Sagebrush - Favorite course in Canada
Hope to see Blackhawk and Tobiano this season as well

Re: RT's Best Courses Opened in the Last Decade
I would generally agree with this list.
Oviinbyrd - Really good and most definitely probably in the top 10 courses opened in the last decade, but not top 20 in Canada. RT is pretty much spot on in saying "rarely overwhelming" as the course is rather lackluster, but mainly solid throughout (except the 9th? Horrible par 5 IMO.)
Tarandowah - With some time having past and another round under my belt, I would say that although I did slightly underrate it my first time round...I still believe the faults previously mentioned hold up. I think the value of the course fools people into believing it is better than it is. Like Oviinbyrd, I can see how it could be top 10 opened in the last decade and I can give it even a Top 80 in Canada... or at least...I would put it ahead of some of the other courses on the list.
Eagles Nest - I am a big fan of what has been done at Eagle's Nest. The course, the land reclamation it's contribution to the area...it's all good here IMO and if it wasn't the Banquet Hall of golf courses it would be even better!

Re: RT's Best Courses Opened in the Last Decade
Agreed with the Hoot. I think I played it 4 or 5 times in 2010 and it got better and better every round. I think Eagle's Nest is one of the best courses I have ever played, but I can't justify the kind of money they want for a tee-timeDriver:Titleist 910 D2 w/ Diamana Ahina stiff

Re: RT's Best Courses Opened in the Last Decade
I played the Hoot as my second round of the year last year in March. It was a beautiful day out and the course was in pretty good shape. I'll definitely get out there early this year with you if you're interested.Driver:Titleist 910 D2 w/ Diamana Ahina stiff

Re: RT's Best Courses Opened in the Last Decade
I think we should try and get a spring rate for a pay - all - day special and a bunch of TGN guys...

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
Osprey Valley does NOT offer discounts to anyone.....unless you are like someone on here that just hops the fence at his leisure.
They do have a "play all day" rate that is excellent if you ask me, especially for a bright sunny summer day.

Re: RT's Best Courses Opened in the Last Decade
Ya what i meant, if the sumemr vs fall/spring play all day rate was the same. It seems like a good deal in the summer, but going in april/may i would hope it would be different(but i remember hearing it wasn't). Maybe with a big enough group you might get a lunch or something, you never know unless you try :P

Re: RT's Best Courses Opened in the Last Decade
haha I was going to reply but couldn't quite come up with the words.. I think scott put it perfectly
They do offer spring rates, but they last for like 2 weeks and aren't much of a discount. I think it's somewhere in the neighbourhood of 10 bucks off.
Their play-all-day rate is 140 Monday-Thursday and 180 Friday-Sunday.Driver:Titleist 910 D2 w/ Diamana Ahina stiff

luv2golow busted his butt getting us a good rate for a big TGN outing a few years back, but even then it was a pain for him and we didn't save that much.

Re: RT's Best Courses Opened in the Last Decade
I dont want a "deal". I just dont think golf may1st or april15th should be the same as Aug1stI remember reading they didn't really offer much of a break. I will go anytime, more golf the better> Just need it warm enough to tee off at sunrise and play till it's dark
