Hey guys, I'm stuck on choosing the right irons for myself. I'm retiring my current set of R9 TP irons w KBS Tour shafts, and now I'm looking at the Nike Blades or the Mizuno MP64. I've hit both at Golftown, I was able hit the Mizuno's with the KBS C-Taper shafts but couldn't do the same with NIKE's. So the launch, dispersion and spin rates are quite different. Was wondering if anyone has ever hit these two sets of irons in identical shafts. What's really enticing about the Nike's are the reduced pricing and the sleek chrome. I'd really appreciate your opinions. One last thing I'm switching because my ballflight is way too high with my current irons, I do not believe think it's a swing issue. Much appreciated!!!

I would go with Nikes based on your assessment of your needed ball flight. Both are great forgings but the blades should make trajectory control easier.

I agree, especially when it comes to blades...it's really about visual and brand preference more than anything. The VR Pros will probably be easier to flight the ball low. The discount is a bonus as well.

I feel like Nike has a bad rep among some golf diehards but for the most part they have quality products.

I also say the blades. HOWEVER, the biggest difference you'll likely notice compared to your current sticks are the C-Taper shafts. They really, really drop the ball flight down.

I see...The only thing I'm afraid of is equipping the C-Tapers in these blades, the ball flight is gonna be like 2 feet high off the ground LOL. What you think?

They are pretty serious shafts, and the golfing population they actually fit is pretty small. This is one case where I would want to hit irons with those shafts in them before plunking down the cash.

i have S300's in my VR pr blades right now, and if you look at that other club building thread on here thats going on right now, i've explained in there a bit that i just did a flightscope outdoor fitting in long beach. After 1 shot the fitter just chuckled that i hit the ball WAY too high (after telling him i thought i hit an average height shot). he said he would recommend the C-taper in X. i was a little scared of that recommendation since i know C-tapers play pretty stout (asked him if i should go with S+ instead) but he's a reputable guy and i guess i'll do what he says.

how high do you hit your irons now? he said by making the move to the right shaft i should be gaining around 10 yards or so. way nicer ball flight. when i get them back, i'll probably think i'm hitting them way too low, just because of what my previous mindset on a normal ball flight was.

i would definitely go get a fitting done though!

Re: Nike VR ProBlades or Mizuno MP64

the nike blades have far less offset the your r9's. The Mizuno's offset is much closer to the r9 offset. You'll be able to hit both, but your dispersion left and right with the nike's will skyrocket unless your swing is sound. Price point should not lead you to an iron selection. Performance should be the main factor. You may save now from one brand to another, but you may also be purchasing another set of irons in mid season. Get fit for the right head and shaft combo for your swing.

                        Good Luck

"According" to the golftown simulator,my 6 Iron launch angle was anywhere between 25-27 degrees LOL...so I tried MP64 with C-Taper X flex it dropped down to about 19-22 degress. The Nike Blades were a bit higher than I expected compared to the Mizuno I assume it's the shaft. "According" to the simulator lol was around 178 with my R9 TP's and rolls literally less than a yard which in some case is not a bad thing. When I hit the MP64 my average distance was 215 including roll LOL. The deviation on these stats were so severe which was what brought me here.

Go back and hit the golf ball you play using the Foresight launch monitor. You will get a much greater dose of the truth than from one of our regular simulators. It will cost you $49 which will be credited towards the Nike blades or whatever you decide to buy.
