  • Range Finders

I'm looking for a good range finder. I don't need the best of the best, but something that will give me accurate and quick readings. Slope is a plus but not mandatory. What do you recommend and what price point should I be looking at?

Bushnell V2 is a basic tool with great quality/reliability. Used ones can be found for about $200. New $350+tax on amazon.ca. Slope is not necessary if you know your game. If there is enough downslope for it to really affect your distance, any breeze is going to have a bigger impact than a number on a screen can tell you.
    What's in the Sunmountain 4.5?

SportChek has the V3 for $300. I would assume this is an upgrade on the V2?

            I have a v3 no complaints.

My my buddy just picked up a v4 with slope. It's super quick with the jolt.

I won a Nikon Coolshot at the end of last year and have been very happy with it. No slope option on my unit, but battery is has been great. Still on my original battery after 25 rounds this year.

I picked up a Golf Buddy as a replacement for my Bushnell V3. It's just as good with better magnification and faster readings.

Coincidently it's for sale in the BST as I want to get a smart watch to work with my Golf Shot app. :-)

Have a look and drop me a line if it interests you. Comes with case and rechargable batteries which will save you a load.

I bought a Leupold GX-3 when they came out. Thing is still working perfectly . Sometimes on ebay there will be one and for a good price.

I still have Bushnell 1600 Tournament model, it is a workhorse. Been using it for over 6 years and performs like new.
You may be able to find one used for cheap.

I had a Leupold GX-4i for five years. Honestly was never 100% thrilled with it. The non-slope faceplate would often fall off. Pin lock rarely worked on my home course (1 or 2 holes per round), and having distance to 0.1 yards is frankly not a useful feature.

This season, I bought a Nikon Coolshot 40. Hated it. Returned it to my pro shop after 2 rounds.

I exchanged the Nikon for a Bushnell Tour V4, and it's so much better than the Leopold (or Nikon), imo. Faster. Better anti-shake. Pin lock works on almost every hole (same course). Love the case.
