  • Set Up For Irons With Offset

    Hi all

I just bought TM RBZ irons, regular graphite shaft
When I hit them on the range ( only a 6 iron at a TM demo day ) they and me were awesome. Now that I own the whole set, I am not so awesome. Maybe the magic wore off after I paid the bill !

I seem to be hitting these irons thin and even when I make a good pass they seem to come up short. When hit well, which happens every once in a while, the trajectory is beautiful and it gives me the ball flight I have been looking for

I used to play R7 RAC irons with no offset and never had a set up issue. Just wondering if there are maybe some adjustments I need to make in set up that will get my confidence going

    Thanks

your eyes may be telling you your set up is off ,keep your hands ahead of the ball and see what happens, maybe a video of the swing may help.

OP. where do you try and position the ball in your stance.

If you're hitting it thin and coming up short your ball position may have creeped forward a bit and you are not hitting down on the ball.

Your R7 irons DID have offset, just not as much.

If as RGK5 says these new irons have more offset, your ball position has to be reconfigured.
I suggest you try placing the ball 1 diameter forward because it sounds like you're hitting above the ball equator. With the ball positioned slightly further forward your leading edge will have a split-second longer to travel lower in the swing arc, and thus strike the ball below the equator.

I would move the ball back. (if you're a right handed hitter, then move the ball to the right)

Imagine a club with a super exaggerated offset. If you position the ball forward, your hand will be way passed the ball on contact. This will likely result in thinner contact since it will be more difficult to hit down on the ball.

You still want your hands to be in the same place at contact as when you hit your non-offset irons.

              Thanks for the feedback guys
I am having some success moving the ball back a touch and getting my hands a little more forward. I think I might have got the ball too far forward for some reason.

This little tip helped me, a lowly 12 handicapper beat a 3 handicapper straight up on Tuesday night with a lowly little 78.

Now, repeatability is the next challenge as far as ball position goes

Thanks much and hit em straight or with a slight draw !
