  • Question

    hey guys,

I was wondering why I hit the ball so high. I have a 905R with a V2 Stiff 9.5 degree and it goes really high.. My ball isnt going the distance im looking for because it goes to far upwards rather then out. I normally hit the ball reasonably straight but for the last 5 months ive been hitting everything really high. Do you think it is because im hitting down on the ball to much which creates backspin? What do you guys think my problem is and how do you think i can fix it?

    Thanks
    Mike

Possible if that is what you're doing. Supposed to hit a driver on the upswing.

Shaft could be a bad match for you too.

      Re: Question

well the shaft is a lower launching shaft i believe which is what I need. I just think it has something to do with my swing. What are all the possible reasons for hitting the ball high?

        Re: Question

Swing wise - coming in too steep on the golf ball.

Gligster - you've invested a lot of time and money to get where you are. Do yourself a favour and see a CPGA golf professional. If you seek advice on the internet, you'll probably set yourself back further than where you started.

I'd throw my .02 behind that as well.

              Re: Question

You should talk to Samick! If you can find a way to sell some of your high ball flight, I'm sure he'd buy it off ya! Ok ok, uncalled for.

Welcome to the High-launch club Gligster. I too found the 905R w/ V2 a moon ball launcher but that's just me. You'll be in FL in no time. Not sure if you're going where your coach is but if so, you'll have warm temps to contend with! A Snowbird before college/university... why didn't I think of that?!

What shaft should I look into getting the Aldila NV? I have the aldila in the 3 wood and hybird and like the ball flight in that.

Have you gone to a launch monitor? Seems logical before investing any $$$ on a new shaft.

Carlton, I haven't hit this combo but I bought a 905T 9.5 w/V2 stiff for a friend from a tgn member. Also a moon launcher. My J33 w/V2 stiff is actually quite low.

Think what needs to be remembered is that high, in a driver, is the current mantra. The pros hit their drivers ungodly high and launch monitors are set up to find a fairly high / low spin condition.

                      Re: Question

The 905T and 905R is just a higher launching head. A heavier shaft with that driver is probably the best way to go.

                          Re: Question

Thank You TourIQ, Yes im going to continue my gr.12 education as well as try and contact a few university in hopes of getting a scholership. My marks really are not the greatest (High 70's - Low 80's) so im looking for a school that i can get accepted into and play on the golf team as a 2nd 3rd or 4th man because ive heard most universities wont look at you if your going to be the 6th or 7th man they want people filling there top spots so i purchased the ping college guide over the internet to help me find the right universities to contact.

Westbeach What shaft would you reccomend for me? I was at golf town about a week ago and was swinging it around 105 mph. I normally have a high draw as my ball flight and would love to be able to lower it with less of a draw.

                            Re: Question

Without the actual numbers, we shouldnt be making suggestions.

Hitting a hit draw with the driver is great. If your launch angle is around 12-14 range that should be ideal with a swingspeed around 105. Anyone can feel free to correct the above statement if you'd like. Im just going by what Ive seen in "the book" they use when they do a fitting.

Its all good dude...we just need to go out and play, you'll learn not to make fun of my worm burners! J/K

I'm curious to know if the higher ball flight has been a result WHEN the 905R was purchased....or...if it has developed over a period of time by itself? (Is the higher trajectory with the driver only)

That would give a good indication if it was the club you should modify, or if it was swing related.

I guess you could always try out some demos while in sunny Florida (lucky little.....) Try out the same lofted head with a Grafalloy Blue, NV, or even the same shaft and head you have with a lower loft on it.

Just some suggestions, and trying out demos wont cost you anything.

                              Good Luck!
