  • Tired / ancient / untrue golf cliches

"The downswing happens too fast to control", is one of those b.s. golf cliches that have been around forever.

Any part of the body can be moved easily in the ~ 1/2 sec the average downswing takes

Otherwise no one would ever improve their swing (Since it "can't be controlled")

Or be able to hit different types of shots.

Do you hit a different type / quality of shot with your backswing ?

Thoughts on above and / or other cliches ?

"lose control to gain control", except this one is true to the core

        Trees are 70/80/90% air.

Last time I checked trees were 100% tree.

            Keep your head down.
Yeah . Make sure your shoulder hits your chin on the backswing and lifts your whole body making it impossible to make good contact coming down.

This may have been true when Sam Snead used this one. If I understand this correctly, with the old balata balls, it was difficult to hit a low, wind-piercing shot, if you swung too hard and increased the ball's revolutions thereby increasing the height of the ball's trajectory.

This isn't a dress rehearsal. Enjoy yourself. There's no do-over.

I actually like this one. It's a good swing thought for me in adverse conditions to not try and kill the ball

But killing the ball is WAY more fun.
